A friends son is taking a healthy interest in racing at the moment and fortunately not the modern stuff. Obviously the finance thing is a bit of a problem so I said I will provide a machine as I have a few that could fit the bill. The one that he is most interested in is a Vic Camp Suzuki 250 that I raced back in the day. It is all there and will obviously need a full rebuild but to get the lad started next season I think it is well worth the effort. Spares I have a plenty including a couple of spare motors one being an RM. Question is though who now runs single cylinder classes ?

We are going to give him a go at some hill climbs also to get him more time on the bike. Having dusted off the Vic Camp it has got me thinking of resurrecting the leathers and building myself something or using something I already have but single cylinder stuff is interesting me at the moment. Just where to go is the major question at the moment.

Fond memories of the old single days, converted mx machines made for affordable racing for a lot of people.

Try the CRMC, I think there is a class there for this type of bike.  When and where did you race?

As above, have a look at www.cmrf.co.uk and check out the classes, I think they cater for just about everything.

To sign up for their forum though you have to use your proper name, they don't accept 'screen names'

And please keep us posted over here too.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I will check out the crmc and see what is suitable. I think the youngsters need a bit of encouragement so the deal has been struck with the lad and his father. He will have to do some rebuild work with me as part of the deal and I think that is best as he will hopefully get a better insight of the sport I love.

I will try and do some sort of picture rebuild for the forum if anyone is interested. At the end of the day if the lad has just 1% of the enjoyment I did he will be fine Beats the crap out of him dossing round the town and Macki D's as most of his mates seem to do !

My racing was here there and anywhere on the Vic Camp. I got it to get an extra ride really but it was so much fun to ride and a darn sight cheaper than a TZ. On the old nadgery airfield places in the rain it was a hoot compared to the guys on TZ's.

I thought I might have raced against you back in the 70's but I hardly ever rode at airfield circuits.

I think what you are doing is absolutely brilliant, if I'd had an offer like that when I was just starting out in racing I would have been jumping for joy.

From my own experience when trying to help younger riders, you are definitely doing the right thing getting him involved with the spanners too, I may be cynical but I found that some of the youngsters who had got into the sport by watching MotoGP, WSBK, BSB etc consequently assumed, because of what they had seen on TV, that aside from the actual riding they could simply ride in, hand the bike to someone and then sit in one of those armchairs being fussed over by their gorgeous girlfriend while everything was done for them.

I agree with the above..the CRMC is the place to be.They run a Post Classic Aircooled class that's becoming popular.Mostly RD's and X7's at the moment but they do have the odd single ( Camp,Rotax) etc turn up.You race with similar capacity bikes also..classic 250's and upto 200's..which is always a result.
