The pitstop before the VSC for Ricciardo seemed to put him way behind the leaders who pitted under the VSC, how does that work
Because the VSC doesn't apply in the pit lane.
The pit stop time remains about 24 seconds, but the time to cover the distance past the pits whilst under VSC is much longer because they aren't lapping at race speed.
In Ricciardo's case it cost about 12 seconds (to Ham, NIco, Max and Perez) and it meant Perez came out in front of him, despite being 5 or so seconds adrift (pre-stops)
