The pitstop before the VSC for Ricciardo seemed to put him way behind the leaders who pitted under the VSC, how does that work

Because the VSC doesn't apply in the pit lane.

The pit stop time remains about 24 seconds, but the time to cover the distance past the pits whilst under VSC is much longer because they aren't lapping at race speed.

In Ricciardo's case it cost about 12 seconds (to Ham, NIco, Max and Perez) and it meant Perez came out in front of him, despite being 5 or so seconds adrift (pre-stops)

Great race again by Max!! And definitely more positive for Dan compares to Austria. Tyres don't seem a problem anymore. Loads of points for RB.

Though I don't know what was Dan doing with so much life left with the tyres???

Max clearly did the better job in the race, although Ricciardo finishing an easy fourth -- directly behind his teammate -- was impressive in its lack of drama.

Given the equipment they're both world champion material, IMO.

Unfortunately for him, there are 50-odd other laps to do, the final lap says nothing. And with a penalty looming for Rosberg (5-10-20 seconds?) Ricciardo had to push to come into the 20 second window in the final lap. Ricciardo had the more favorable pit for slicks was well.

He absolutely pushed at the end there to cover a penalty but he showed he had plenty left to push with. It wasn't like he was struggling with tyre deg. He had an excellent run there, but there was no point from that gap.

To be fair, I think people could see how much Daniel lost out from the VSC well before the race ended.

Of course, but at no point in the race Ricciardo was getting closer to Max.

Since the point they both got in clean air, the time difference went from 15 secs to 18.

Also Ricciardo was the one struggling to even pass Perez in the beginning, while Max went past Rosberg the first time he got a chance to do that.

I think Dan showed at the end he had plenty left in reserve. It would be nice if he could have a race without something outside his control going wrong like that. I'd hate to see the list this season

Max was much faster on a drying track, the only driver out there who could keep up with the pace of the mercs. Quite a feat. Ricciardo came closer to Max his times when Rosberg finally got passed him and Max had nothing to race for anymore.

They have the best car under them, just the whole package isn't as good as Mercedes has.Drivers are both good enough to win.

Because the VSC doesn't apply in the pit lane.

The pit stop length remains 24 seconds, but the time to cover that distance on the track under VSC is much longer because they aren't lapping at race speed.

In Ricciardo's case it cost about 12 seconds (to Ham, NIco, Max and Perez) and it meant Perez came out in front of him.

Yeah he got shafted in that pit stop so the end gap was a bit flattering for Max. Having said that though Max still had the edge over Dan. Hope Dan can lift his game and alos get a bit of luck too.

Yep, but how much did Daniel have left in reserve? Considering how fast he went in the last 2 laps I'd say a fair amount.

That's not to say he performed better, but if you account for the time lost from the VSC the gap was relatively quite small.

Steve Jones asked Christian Horner if he was "getting used to [Max] being brilliant". Nice turn of phrase.

I understand your point, but if he really had the reserves, then he could've and should've pushed earlier, passing Perez took him ages, and as i said, during the race there was not a single hint of him even getting closer to the top 3.
