Dear friends of TNF, any information or hints regarding the Annemasse circuit?

It must have been in France but close to Geneva and the Swiss border.

Perhaps a playground in connection with the Geneva Car Show?

It is mentioned in "Mercedes-Benz SC W113 Series 1963-71", Brian Long, VeloceBooks:

Legendary British writer and occasional race and rallye driver Gordon Wilkens, also gave his angle:

“With every new Mercedes-Benz introduced since the war it has been my privilege to have my first ride

in it with Rudi Uhlenhaut, the brilliant engineer in charge of passenger car development.

It is the quick, electrifying but painless way of exploring the uttermost limits of the car`s capabilities.

Our test track was part of a new forest circuit being built by a French club near Annemasse.

It was a tight and difficult little loop with seven severe corners in just under three-quarters of a mile.

Uhlenhaut hurled the 230 SL round it in continuous controlled drifts. It felt as if the tyres must come off the rims,

but the car stayed on course at seemingly impossible speeds. Shortly before, in a friendly beat-up with Mike Parkes

in a 250 GT Ferrari Berlinetta, Uhlenhaut had lapped in 47.5 seconds in this comfortable, lavishly equipped road car

of 2.3 litres against 47.3 by the young racing engineer in the lightweight 3-litre Ferrari."

Annemasse was indeed a permanent purpose-made circuit - pretty short, but of a reasonable standard for the times. As far as I know it was mostly (only?) used for motorcycle racing, in the late 60's - early 70's . The link below leads to a webpage with period press clippings including a plan of the circuit.

Vic Elford lived at Annemasse for time (before moving to Lyon), but I can't remember if he makes any mention of the circuit in his book
