Since I know nothing about transporters, cannot make it to Goodwood this year and have nothing to add to the Lester/Riley thread I am at a loss for something to do! It is pissing down with rain here; unlike England where if you want to know the season you check the date, over here you can set your watch by the change in seasons. Summer ends this week therefore it has started raining after weeks of sunny weather...
Bitch, whine, moan etc, etc...

Moderator note: This thread has been 'mined' from the old Blood Pressure thread; see further explanation in post 8

Dear old Wetwood! I remember that weekend. Gille Villeneuve got a lot of press even though he was 'only' in Formula Atlantic.
Over fifteen years I went off at every corner at Westwood-usually in the wet... but not always.

The year before...'75...was my first Atlantic race. It was hotter than blazes that weekend.

One year, I think it was '78, it was raining during practice or qualifying and no one wanted to venture out. No one except Rosberg that is.

I was standing in the esses with several of the drivers when Keke went out. We all looked at each other and shook our heads. We could hear him all the way around the circuit, dancing on the throttle. It sounded like someone playing staccato notes on a trumpet.

Every time he came by us he was sideways. No surprise there. What was pretty surprising though was that he was able to keep it on the track. Especially because his attitude and direction were never the same from lap to lap.

That got my blood pressure up. But in a good way.

Those were definitely the days to be chasing the Atlantic series.

I remember that too! I was in the grandstand at the hairpin and Rosberg came in on a different line every time until suddenly he got the line he wanted and it was amazing--everyone in the grandstand stood and roared their approval!

Ah yes, "The Cake". Glad you got to see that, it was almost always visually exciting when he was flogging one of his Chevrons.

And here's one that raised the blood pressure of the other drivers. Gilles. Atlantic Motorsport Park '76.

I was there too. Keke's car was painted a coy pink with "EXCITA" written on the side. A condom ad.

I also remember David Birchall casually watching the race from his ringside seat on top of the tyres at the Esses...still in his Climax Special as I went by in my pre-war blown MG.

This thread was originally a discussion in the Blood Pressure thread. This was a thread which ran between 2009 and 2011 where we all had a good moan about things which were raising our blood pressures, mostly concentrating on misuse of the English language. Eventually it was considered to have run its course, and was binned. There were however some interesting discussions in it worth preserving, and this is one of them. Any further contributions would be very welcome.
