Guys is there any way to get rid of the rather ridiculous smiley bar at the bottom of the page when i am entering text?

It slows down every browser I have tried to the point where typing becomes a ploddy affair!

Anything that can be done please?

I appreciate some people like these things, but it is rather ruining the forum experience on busy threads for me

It sounds like you need a new computer more than anything. Those emoticons are pre-historic and they really shouldn't be using too much memory. It would also help to run a program like CCleaner periodically to erase temporary files. You should also check whether you're low on disk space. Otherwise the solution is to put those emoticons behind a drop-down menu and slow the process for everyone else.

In another thread, he's mentioned that he's just bought a new machine running W10.

Without more details, my guess would be - especially if it really does happen across multiple browsers - that it's due to some sort of pre-installed security bloatware crap like Norton ...

We can all agree that the emoticons are going nowhere I hope?? I was close enough to a melt-down when they needlessly updated the Ross Brown subject line.

Do you really press Enter twice and add a  after every single post you write?

I'm just curious! I don't think I could remember every time myself.

Browsers slowed down because of tiny GIFs? Hmm, I'm thinking... a faulty graphics driver maybe? If you scroll down a long forum thread using the scrollbar, does the picture refresh very smoothly or is it choppy?

On threads that run to lots of pages I have experienced a similar issue.

Perhaps not the smiley bar.

I am running Chrome and as I scroll down the page the adverts taker their usual few seconds to load which makes things jerky, fair enough.

but then as i open a reply box I am at the bottom of the page clearly,  I noticed that the red Autosport A is flashing hundreds of times, as are the refresh and home icons and presumably the whole bar as if something is trying to load hundreds of times a second. Dodgy script?

This locks everything up.

Not every time, but on busy threads like the bike racing one I use a lot.

As mentioned PC is brand new as are drivers etc. Was getting it before, might be a garbage net connection praps.

Turns out that screen flickering is one of the new Windows 10 features. Maybe you're seeing one of the symptoms.

Microsoft has a step-by-step support article about it:
https://support.micr...reen-flickering

So it's hopefully caused either by faulty display drivers, or by one of the known apps that hopefully can be updated...

Why do Microcrap with 10 suddenly call everything an APP.

I see why, because this crap is designed for phones and tablets, not proper PC's.

Is the problem still there, chunder?

It's odd if the flickering and jerkiness only occurs at the Autosport forums (and in several browsers). But then maybe you spend most of your time here. :D

Anyway, you could try this: Go to a thread that makes the refresh and home icons flicker. Now zoom in as much as you can (500% in Chrome?) on a post that only has black text, and then scroll horizontally until there's only black text on a white background. Are those icons still flickering? In that case it's likely a graphics issue rather than a dodgy script or whatever.

(I still suspect it's the wrong refresh rate set in Windows, or faulty display drivers, or that fancy flickering feature in Windows 10.)

Hmmmm.

How olden, and what part?

Days of my youth. endless summers, sun shining each and every day, rosy cheeks from a snowy day outside, civil and urbane, children were seen not heard. The part here we slay The Sicilian Dragon.
