I know it is a pale shadow of its former self but i still like to go and get soaking wet at the Gold Cup. Has anybody seen an entry list?
No.
MSV have produced an all-singing website for the event, which is far less informative than their bog-standard calendar/event info page.

The entries only closed on Friday (when most of the HSCC office staff were involved at Croft). As is usually the way with HSCC meetings, a lot of people (sometimes as many as 40%) won't enter until they know they've survived the previous meeting unscathed.
The entry list should be on the website about 10 days or so before the event.

It's difficult to predict which cars will actually be there, but we're hoping for more than 25 cars including the two Lotus 25s. Fingers crossed!

Nice to see that the Historic Gold Cup will be reserved for the overall winner of the two HGPCA races

Personally I could live without the "Super Touring" cars with all their massive transporters and huge tents and egos, etc. Maybe in ten years I'll have changed my mind?
No news of the F1 entry yet?

Aren't the "Super Touring" cars in private hands by now?

Bit of a change from the first time I saw Touring cars at Oulton, Tony Brooks in a DKW, Girling in a Standard 10 (with wire wheels!!) Jo Bonnier in an Alfa 1900 etc
Addendum
I've just looked up that race 1954, Wharton in an Austin Westminster, Hawthorn in a Zephyr but I also remember meeting JMH coming the other way in his 750S, I had just left the Red Lion at Little Budworth after a lunch time pie and pint, I was driving a Mk V Jag and there was just room for me to cringe into the grass verge as he came past with a grin and a lot of noise. I think my hero worship dates from that time.

Only one Lotus 25 for Nick Fennell, but one is infinitely better than none

Did anybody get any decent photos please. I went on Saturday and my camera steadfastly refused to operate. I need them for an American friend who could not attend because of a surgical intervention, happily with positive results.
Aside from that had a grand day out good racing especially the the 2nd 70s road sports with a Europa, a 240Z and a Plus 8 battling race long and at times 3 abreast round Old Hall. As an aside I don't think I've ever (as a TVR 2 time owner) seen 3 Griffiths together at one time.

Also watched that (most entertaining) Roadsports race from the stand at Old Hall, may have been a few seats away.

Thank you very much indeed, I can now send those off to California and also report that I met a college friend I have not seen for over 40 years, my American friend knows him independently. Small world isn't it? Then I suppose not in the field of Motor Sport, we do get around.

I'd never seen one of these before - Thomas White's Osella FF2000
TNF's Iain Rowley in the Assegai
Steve Worrad's Palliser
The first lap of the first FFord race - Benn Simms in the Jomo JMR7 leads the Merlyn Mk20s of Callum Grant, Max Bartell and eventual race winner Sam Mitchell
For me, this was the star of the show - Andy Middlehurst's Lotus 43-BRM H16, a few weeks short of 50 years since it first appeared at Oulton
It was great to see TNF's Peter Horsman win the Oulton Park Gold Cup in his Lotus 18/21 after a good battle with Rod Jolley's Cooper in the second race.

Many thanks for posting pictures. We had a great couple of races in the Assegai. P5 overall and P2 class. Now been dumped for a more younger quicker driver but been a lot of fun.

Good to see Oulton's policy of charging an extra tenner to sit in the stands paying off...... reminds me of Newcastle United's visit to Camp Nou

I hear Andy Middlehurst sourced the H16 engine for the 43 from a museum in Australia, anyone got specifics??

Have to say I found the whole thing a bit underwhelming, compared to what I remember.

What a glorious day it was yesterday, for both weather and motor racing.
I'd never seen one of these before - Thomas White's Osella FF2000
Tom and his Dad Sean joined one of our Northern TNF meets not so long ago.

OP, Dr. P needs to kick out the HSCC (who have turned this two-day event into a three-day event and down-graded it into one of their over-stretched clubbies, which are aimed at the competitors, rather than paying public)... and get the OPGC back to where it belongs. imho.

I take it you mean as a non-championship Formula 1 event!

Analysis above about right in my book.
Only attended on Monday and found the racing varied between very good and somewhat strung out. Some grids fairly thin (impact of increasing number of historic meetings ?).
If you want to see artisan produce and WW2 re-enactments, then fine, but I was looking for good racing, with decent sized grids, on an excellent circuit and it didn't quite deliver.
Lovely weather helped.

I have to admit that I did a great deal of nattering with old friends, I should have gone back on the Monday as my one time navigator attended, but couldn't desert the memsahib two days in a row. (Actually her involvement in the sport was earlier than mine having been taken to Brooklands in her pram where her Uncle was racing a 350 AJS

There were two H-16 BRMs in the Australian museum that closed down (Fremantle?).
Andy bought both of them.
P83, 8301 had been converted to F5000 spec. when it lost its H-16 engine & gearbox.
And the P109 which was displayed at Expo67 in Montreal in 1967 and had most of an H-16 engine and gearbox - which is what was used to provide the engine for the Lotus 43 (the only part Hall & Hall couldn't produce was the crankcase).

HSCC do a great job of putting on historic racing and the Wolds Trophy at Cadwell and Croft Nostalgia meetings are exemplary and 'must see' events for me . . These are two day events and I am perturbed if the Gold Cup , like the Donington Classic, is being stretched to 3 days . Are we sure this is down to the Club and if so , why do it ? Some testing on a friday(or sat in this case)for those who want it and can afford it and practice /racing on sat /sun seems like a good recipe.

The Gold Cup has been a 3-day event for over 10 years.
