Correction, midget crash. At the Belleville Nationals, arguably the biggest midget race. Knoxville (IA) for sprint cars, Belleville (KS) for midgets.

Hopefully he recovers and attempts to take the record another year.

There were some erroneous reports earlier - from Motor Racing Network Radio, no less - that he'd passed away. They've since (rightly) apologised.
Sorry to hear this though. Hopefully he pulls through.

Reports of an IMS press conference at 8am ET with an announcement regarding Clauson. Doesn't sound good to me.

RIP. From what I've heard one of the best of the current generation of oval track drivers, and evidently a talented entrepreneur given all the Indy 500 rides he put together.
I had no idea he was so young.

Bryan Clauson, who was seriously injured in a vicious wreck in Saturday night’s Belleville Midget Nationals, has died, it was confirmed on Monday in a press conference at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The native of Sacramento, Calif., grew up in Noblesville, Ind. He was 27. "This is truly one of the darkest days in the 60-year history of the United States Auto Club," said USAC President and CEO Kevin Miller.
He was also well known in the Nascar and Indycar communities, having competed as a Ganassi development driver in 2007-8, and more recently made three Indy 500 starts.
For those that didn't see the original report: http://www.motorspor...ash-805824/?s=1
The three-time Belleville winner and defending champion, started the race ninth and was leading when he flipped off the guard rail between Turns 3 and 4 before being hit by Ryan Greth in Turn 4 while the car was rolling. The race was red-flagged on Lap 14. Chad Boat went on to win the race.

While he never set the indycar field alight it was good to see someone with such a passion for racing (judging by his aim to do 200 races this year). It's such a shame he will never reach his target.
RIP Bryan Clauson

So good on him to have had the nous to be able to put deals together not just for that, but this 200 races goal.
Proper awful to say he went doing what he loved, but someone targeting 200 races in a year DOES love what they do, a lot.
I'm sure he'll be sorely missed.

I stood nearby to him, Conor Daly, Dale Coyne and the Byrd's at the past Performance Racing Industries show in Indianapolis when they were announcing their deals for the year and then watched Robin Miller interview all of them for Racer. I'll remember that happy day, as I'm sure many others will with their own personal experiences of this respected racer. RIP

I'll only have seen him in the Indy 500, but it's amazing to see how much he had going on in different series. Evidently someone who really just loved his racing, to be racing in so many different series. A definite loss to the racing world, my thoughts are with his friends and family.

Clauson will be missed by American open-wheel fans, for sure. At 27 years old, he already is among the top feature winners in USAC Sprint Car and National Midget history, with two series championships in each. By all accounts, Clauson wanted to race just about anything, anywhere, as in the days of AJ, Mario, Parnelli and co. Saw in an online story that someone tweeted that Clauson appears to be the only racer ever to lead laps in the Indy 500 and then win a sprint car race that same day, as he won a non-wing feature in Kokomo, Ind. after leading a few laps in this year's 500, Add in how everyone seems to be saying he was basically a good, funny person, and the old-school short trackers are definitely short one young hero. RIP, Bryan.
Excellent column on Clauson by demon National Speed Sport News writer Mike Kerchner here.

Brian, so was Justin Wilson. There are good people in this sport. Unfortunately, bad things can still happen to them. Life does not choose its favourites.
