Well it is winter in Australia and despite widespread drought throughout the country, Rob Roy didn't really need what it was faced with today. For this annual VSCC Rob Roy meeting this sort of clobber was more the attire to deal with the low temperature, mud, rain, hail, wind and very brief sunshine.
With the Rob Roy site overseen by the MG Car Club of Victoria, they don't do things by halves, they do it octagonally. This was this morning's Driver's Briefing held at the Octunda.
An impromptu conference between Vauxhall 30/98 aficionados, Peter Holbeach and Patrick Ryan (current VSCC President)
Jim 'Stumpy' Russell launches his Ford V8 special off the startline. All that power was fun, but a hindrance on the slippery surface..
Today's officials, competitors and spectators are to be congratulated for their stoic efforts under very trying weather. Competitors and spectators have a choice (the smart ones stayed in bed), but to keep the show moving all officials are required regardless of weather. So a job well done by all.

I gave up the idea of attending with hail falling at home about 10am this morning. Decision premature perhaps?

That was the smart option, but still an enjoyable day to be had for those of who braved the elements.
Yes Ray, both George Reed cars competed today - photos to come.
John Marriott Austin 7 special having a moment as he heads to the top... yes he did come unstuck. Also for those not aware, that's Gaze's Gully in front of the tender vehicles. So named after Tony put the Alta GP down there during the May 1948 meeting. The orange Phillip Hallo Austin 7 is on the return roiad.
The sun was out long enough to create a shadow under Kevin Brown's T Ford racer. A few minutes later the sun disappeared to be replaced by more mucky weather.
Always interesting cars on display too. Lovely Mk1 Sprite and Fargo ute.

The George Reed Ford V8 specials...
Graeme Raper ready to launch Monoskate off the line.
Louise Raper aiming So-Cal towards the causeway
Graeme's next run
After Clerk of Course, Peter Sortwell and Event Secretary, Daniel Zampatti had said their thing at Drivers' Briefing, VSCC Pres, Patrick Ryan had a bit of a chat that included us singing Happy Birthday to Graeme Raper. Ultimately as it would be announced later in the day at the Trophy Presentation 'birthday boy' won Fastest time of the day by virtue of him being a VSCC member and his car suiting VSCC rulebook. There was 2 others faster, but one was an invited club member and the other's car had a later engine fitted. No champers spray though, but Graeme had a mud bath with his excursion on his last run.

Some more from last Sunday.
The ex Hipkins Frazer Nash was double entered, this should be the car's owner, Peter Donald
Dick O'Keefe leaves the startline in the Lotus-inspired Photon special
The only member of the aircooled brigade this year was Matthew Van in his Eddie Thomas special

I certainly enjoyed the time I spent with Patrick Ryan at the Automotive Historians Australia conference at the University of Melbourne earlier this month. Great chap and someone who made me feel right at home. That goes for the others at the conference, of course, but Patrick really went out of his way for me.

Here's AHA member, Tony Lupton having a run in another of the Patrick Ryan fleet, the Elgaram Jaguar
While during the lunch break each year the VSCC run a billycart derby for the kids, usually the grandchildren of the drivers..
Here Sean Batagol takes his Ferrari inspired billy cart across the finish line. If I was taking enough notice, he won FTD.

Yes, it was a great pleasure to spend time with Mark as well as Tony Lupton at the AHA conference. It was an excellent conference, from top to bottom, and I am happy I made the trek to attend.

Daniel, the little I can tell you is that it is part of Bolwell's early history - built by Graeme Bolwell. It was used by others in various Hillclimbs and the like in the 1960s, Bob Minogue ran it at Geelong Sprints in 1964.
Patrick has had the car running at various historic events in the last couple of years, sometimes with his son Conor behind the wheel.

Despite a rather fresh start to the day, VSCC Rob Roy ran very smoothly to the sound of mainly ancient motors... Could be said of the drivers too (but not all)
A couple of old (as in former) Presidents of the VSCC Victoria with their old motors.... Neill Murdoch and Peter Donald chew the fat while awaiting their slot at the scrutineering bay. Alta and GN - with a Morris transplant I believe.

Back in post 62 (from 2018 of this thread) there's a billy cart with Sean Batagol. Well he's got a bigger billy cart now - the ex John Bowring historic racing A7. Sean getting some advice from his grandfather, Barry.

Stephen,
Rob Alsop has done a fantastic job on his Brescia - T23 #2063 - which like just about all the locally delivered Brescias has a competition history if more modest than some.
He bought it as a ‘running roller’ from Peter Molina via Up The Creek only 2 years ago and put heaps of work and no shortage of dollars working hand in glove with the body-builder whose name has gone outta my head. It’s a real honey of a thing. Shot above on a Bug Rally last weekend.

Yes, fabulous photos which make us feel like we are there - saves me the fare from London.

I'm glad these Rob Roy photos are helping show what goes on when enthusiasts gather for hillclimbing this side of the equator. And perhaps save an airfare or two.
Rob Roy has a long history going back to 1937 and the MG Car Club of Victoria's doing its best to keep the venue alive into the future.
Here's a couple more snaps from last week.
