An acquaintance is looking for a motor racing book from his childhood (the sixties) and asked me, but I came up short.  I thought, however, that I’d ask on the most knowledgeable place I can think of, the Autosport Nostalgia Forum. The book is supposedly about some young men who build a racing car of some old Bentley parts. They race it, wins quite a lot and even participates at LeMans. Any tip about this will be greatly appreciated.

Often discussed here - a book many of us read longer ago than we care to either admit or remember - 'Speed Six' by Bruce Carter (a nom de plume of racing writer and journalist Richard Hough). :)

Not easy to come by these days and sells for rather silly money!

Hans, as Vitesse suggests, the 1950s hardback can be a bit pricey, but there are plenty of cheaper 1960s/70s softback copies for sale - Abe and Alibris for example.

The cheapest copy I can see at the moment is an ex-school library hardback for sale here on Ebay:

I would exercise caution on that one. It's an educational edition and may be abridged and/or large print and/or 'simplified' for reluctant readers. I've found references to there being four different vocabulary levels in that series, so the text may not be identical with the Bodley Head hardback and  Puffin paperback editions.

Remember also that the story in the paperback edition is not quite the same as in the original hardback. Hough/Carter rewrote the book for the paperback edition, and although the basic plot is the same, some of the characters, mods to the Bentley, etc, are different. We discovered this here a few years ago - the discussion starts at this post and continues in subsequent posts.
