Absorbed into the BOSS GP Series in 2016.

But with only 1-2 cars.

The first round of the 2016 Season actually had 7 cars.

After the merger, there were 3-4 cars.

I think someone has said it already... Unlimited CanAm prototype cars, with bizarre extreme cars like that Chaparral 2J fan car

USAC Sabre. It never really got interest, sonthe cars were sold to Autopolis before the series started (I thonk Sabre was the name of the car, not the proposed series).

I remember seeing the cars in Autoweek back in the early 90s. I thought they were quite handsome at the time.

This thread has outlasted most of the series mentioned in it at this point.

OK folks, clutch your keyboards:

  • The Formula One World Championship series. Started 1950, lasted through 1951, canned for 1952 and replaced by F2.
(All comments beginning "Ah but" shall be disregarded).

Historical accuracy is strong with this one.

He wasn't being serious, hence the pre-emptive shut down of the ABB (Ah But Brigade).

Interesting that Formula E, being something of an inspiration for the thread (below), had only been running for two years at that point. Now we're only a handful of months away from the tenth anniversary of the inaugural race.

After the idea of Formula E was presented, many thought about another short-lived racing series like many others before.

For example A1GP. I liked the idea of a nations cup, and we had strong drivers and some exotic ones. A nice field I think.
Or GP Masters - with former F1 drivers driving Formula cars again.
Or Superleague Formula - nice cars, but the idea to combine football and Racing together was a bad idea.

Any other short-lived racing series, perhaps with good ideas behind?

Shocking, it feels like it was 4 months ago

Probably also because the only FE events I've ever watched have been Beijing 2014 and Portland 2023 lol

In the same vein, Formula A (1946-50).

I’m glad that FE found its feet and proved all electric motorsport is possible. But it’s amazing how quickly I got bored of it. I don’t think it’s the electric aspect at all. It’s the overuse of street tracks and gimmicky stuff that just doesn’t work for me.

I still think they've done a good job in recent years stripping out some of the seriously gimmicky aspects (FanBoost, Random lottery draw group qualifying, etc.) to the point where I think it's in the same league as most other series for them, whilst the new CEO Jeff Dodds recently said he is foreseeing 60/40 split in future calendars for street/permanent venues.

But then that's not to say that everyone should like it now. I think one of the things I like most about motorsport is the sheer variety of series and disciplines. Despite numerous attempts, things like MotoGP and BTCC (for example) have failed to get my blood pumping and left me totally cold - couldn't maintain any interest - and yet they're they're for whoever enjoys them.

Wait.... were they trying to make the outside lane twice as long!?

"Daaaad, Billy wants lane 2 again!"

I never understood the sets that weren’t a basic figure of eight and didn’t bring crossover tracks.

Aaaargh. You have prompted nightmare memories of discussions at a slot club building a wooden track, where a spotty 16 year old (me) had to persuade the adults not to have the "loop" inside the main track because it would double the lane difference instead of eliminating it. To their credit, they did listen and revised the plan.

1962. Bridges, yes, crossovers hadn't been invented. And "digital" meant counting on your fingers.

My dad’s VIP set from the 60s had crossovers. But then VIP was a premium brand.

Dunno.  Despite the heavy advertising, I remain equally heavy in my resolve to actively avoid it as I refuse to show any support of any kind for autonomous technology.

Formula 2 in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

One season in 1962, then 1971-72 and 1974-75.
