I think someone has said it already... Unlimited CanAm prototype cars, with bizarre extreme cars like that Chaparral 2J fan car

Historical accuracy is strong with this one.

Interesting that Formula E, being something of an inspiration for the thread (below), had only been running for two years at that point. Now we're only a handful of months away from the tenth anniversary of the inaugural race.
After the idea of Formula E was presented, many thought about another short-lived racing series like many others before.
For example A1GP. I liked the idea of a nations cup, and we had strong drivers and some exotic ones. A nice field I think.
Or GP Masters - with former F1 drivers driving Formula cars again.
Or Superleague Formula - nice cars, but the idea to combine football and Racing together was a bad idea.
Any other short-lived racing series, perhaps with good ideas behind?

In the same vein, Formula A (1946-50).

I’m glad that FE found its feet and proved all electric motorsport is possible. But it’s amazing how quickly I got bored of it. I don’t think it’s the electric aspect at all. It’s the overuse of street tracks and gimmicky stuff that just doesn’t work for me.
I still think they've done a good job in recent years stripping out some of the seriously gimmicky aspects (FanBoost, Random lottery draw group qualifying, etc.) to the point where I think it's in the same league as most other series for them, whilst the new CEO Jeff Dodds recently said he is foreseeing 60/40 split in future calendars for street/permanent venues.
But then that's not to say that everyone should like it now. I think one of the things I like most about motorsport is the sheer variety of series and disciplines. Despite numerous attempts, things like MotoGP and BTCC (for example) have failed to get my blood pumping and left me totally cold - couldn't maintain any interest - and yet they're they're for whoever enjoys them.
