I wonder if anyone has an entry or results list for the Birkett in 1989/90? I am interested in whether there were any Ginetta teams and who the drivers were.

There were certainly two (maybe three) G4s in a mixed bag team with two 'Plastimog' Lotus Twin-cam engined Morgans in 1989. One was driven by Bob Cook. Can't remember much about the Ginetta teams but recall they were always a welcome and competitive part of the line-up. We (the Morgan Plus 8 team) won overall in '87 and '88

Thanks, ST. Sadly Bob Cook died last year. I guess John Milbank had one of the twin cam Morgans, for which Bob built the engines

Sorry to hear that h4887 :-( Yes, John Millbank drove one...it came on one of their monster trucks and was hoisted off into the Silverstone paddock on one notable occasion! (John's company sponsored the Morgan Challenge one year) ISTR Bob shared the Lindsay's +8 with Mary Lindsay and Mike Duncan...Wilhire 24hrs '83.....12th O/A

Yes my records for Bob Cook, normally in a 1598 cc Ginetta G4, show that drove John Milbank's 4/4 (1598 cc by then) in 1991 and a 4200 cc +8 in 1995 - I don't know whose that was as I think the Lindsay +8 was never more than 3528 cc.

John and Mary's "JEK" was, is and hopefully always will be 3528cc (plus a bit of wear and tear!). Bob may well have driven a 4.2 in '85, there were plenty of them about (after I had built the first one, as indeed I did the first 3.9 and 4.5 Morgans...and BMW-engined one come to that ) Morgans won the Willhire outright in '82 in "MMC 11", drivers being Wells, Alford and Paul. That netted Morgan the third consecutive Commander's Cup for a single car entry.

I hope Julian Roberts will excuse me for posting this on his behalf. He raised a query on Facebook about the identity of the cars featured in this photograph which appears to be from a relay which he thinks is Silverstone late 50s/early '60s. Here is his question:
An elderly relative (in-law) allowed me access to a box of unloved and forgotten slides taken by her late husband in the 50's & early 60's. They're an odd size so I had to make a cardboard holder to fit my film scanner and after many hours trial and error I've scanned them all. Most are from Le Mans so I can wade through them making the necessary identification relatively easily.
This one, from Silverstone (I am almost certain) has me stumped. 3 MGs, 750MC 6 Hour Relay Race ? Anyone have any clues re the drivers or year??

140 laps of Club circuit 225 miles.
Winning Team
Jim Hacking MG TD?
J Trafford MGA
Tommy Entwistle White MGA

Is the relative a relation of the drivers, if so I'd love to see more photos. I'm interested in both Jim Hacking and Tommy Entwistle. Jim raced an early RGS bodied TVR at Barbon & Aintree EFV 748 in 1955. Tommy Entwistle won a number of Freddy Dixon Trophy competing in his TVR's reg TE2 Mk2, 3 and 1800s. I don't know any more about J Trafford shown in the centre of the photo.
I have found another photo of the presentation see link.

This will take you to a wonderful piece of colour footage relating to the August 1960 750MC Relay Race, with Austin Seven, Lotus, Mini, TVR, etc and their club racing drivers were having fun. Even more so if their wheels stayed attached. No wonder BMC had to strengthen Mini wheels! .

Thanks for that, Stephen!
Lots of people I remember in the officials list and probably as competitors, if I think hard.
I was probably there as a spectator, little knowing I'd be part of the handicapping partnership some twenty years later!

Lovely Ford E83W in two-tone blue signwritten "Terrier". Presumably Len Terry's equipe. This would be good fodder for the "transporters" thread.
(The TVR driver was a bit hopeful waving the sash for someone to collect. Can't see the marshals allowing a team-mate to stop mid-circuit. Shouldn't he have hoofed it back to the pits?)

(The TVR driver was a bit hopeful waving the sash for someone to collect. Can't see the marshals allowing a team-mate to stop mid-circuit. Shouldn't he have hoofed it back to the pits?)
In those days if you stopped (and were noticed by someone with a telephone) a message was sent to the team manager to send another car - which would then collect the sash and continue.
As time passed and things became less simple a rule was introduced that a team with two cars active on track would not score any laps for either car - what had happened to cause that rule was that someone had broken down but had fixed the problem and carried on racing before the relief car got there and the relief car (sans sash, but they were never that visible) carried on looking for his team-mate.
A later iteration replaced the sash with a piece of white velcro-backed stuff which was carried on a piece of black velcro mounted on the front o/s (timekeepers' side!) of the car. The detachable bit was still called a sash of course!

TVR Team
7A K Aitchison TVR MG 1588 Mk2
7B David Nurse TVR MG MK1
7C A Palmer TVR MG Mk1
7D John Brown TVR Climax 1216cc Mk2
7E JRM Boothby TVR Climax 1216cc
7F TE2 Tommy Entwistle TVR Climax 1460cc Mk2 (Twin Cam)
John Brown crashed his lightweight TVR at Becketts and is seen waving the sash. I spoke to John about 2 years ago and his old car is currently being restored. I've also recently spoken to Keith Aitchison and David Nurse, so atleast half the TVR team are still with us. You can see Aitchison, Nurse, Brown and Tommy Entwistle's TVR's on the film. I don't think there is any film of Palmer and Boothby.

Whilst this thread is at the top of the list does anyone have the full entry list for Birkett August 1959.
Thanks
Rob
I've just noticed I have this programme.
(Team) 24 T.V.R Coupes 29 credit laps
Team Manager - Denis Wolstenholme
A - D Wolstenholme 1172 (S)
B - P Dann Austin 1489
C - C Escott 1172 (S)
D - A Bracegirlde 1172 (S)
I don't have the 1960 programme, but do have some info. The TVR Team Manager in 1960 was Trevor Wilkinson and they had 27 credit laps.

Stephen,
Thanks for 1959 TVR team - Colin Escott, Tony Bracegirdle and Denys Wolstenholme - I'm not sure who P Dann is and wonder if Averil Scott Moncrieff took his place in her supercharged Ford engine Grantura. If anyone has more info please let me know.
Thanks

Rob, it would appear the TVR team didn't have a good run at the 1959 event. Aug 21 Autosport has a report and it appears a TVR spun just after the start and the team had several car woes that put them out early with the sash stuck in the paddock for a length of time with no cars circulating. Although they didn't officially retire until nearly 3.30pm.
