Auber drove a T37 Bugatti in the late 1920s in Northern French events. There is evidence for a first name of both Henry and Philippe but are these different people ?
In the first edition of the "black book" Record of Grand Prix & Voiturette Racing Paul Sheldon used Philippe and many web sites also use Philippe but of course most are simple repeats the "black books".
This was fine until I invested in a copy of Lavalard & Embry's book "Au Temps du Grand Prix de Picardie" where there is a mini-bio of Henry Auber stated as the winner of the 1927,28,29 races, There is a picture of him and of his racing licence which shows Auber, Mathieu Henry - so no Philippe.
But in "Reims, Vitesse Champagne et Passion" the name of Aubert racing at Reims is given as Philippe. I am reasonably sure that this book was not a "lift" from Sheldon and used prime sources so cannot be dismissed.
The only other source I have is the Dieppe book which uses Philippe but has a picture of M.Auber and if it isn't the same chap as in the Picardie book then they are twin brothers !
In Le Matin 10.4.32 the entry at Aisne is shown as H Auber.
So, one person or two ?????
Help !
