never forget the year F1 died. 2009.

The MP4-26 was a very nice looking car.
I'd give the 2015 Mercedes W06 and Lotus E23 a shout too.

This isn't the "most hilariously ugly car of the modern era" thread.

For me it is Ferrari F2012. I don't know why but this car holds a special place in my heart.

Maybe the OP can enlighten us what he considers as the "high wing era"?
The only high wing era I know was from mid-1968 to May 1969.
Posted 20 November 2016 - 19:20
I prefer the 2007-09 red than what they use now.

Wow, the simplicity of that front wing.
It's easy to forget how recent the complex creations on today's cars are.

It probably won't get a lot of love in here but I really liked the Brawn BGP 001

I think what FullThrottleF1 means is high nose cars. Hybrid era of Formula1 is low nose cars.

Really love the RB-12. Hope they will continue with the matte colours next year!

I'll join you on that, especially in the early season before some of the clashing sponsor stickers were added.

I'm not sure what the high-wing era is, but looking at the photos here I'm glad it's on the way out?

What makes you say that? The steps were a product of the 12 nose height limit which created a flat limit ahead of the monocoque. Next year's cars noses are going to be more like the current ones.

The monocoque 'box' allows for it again. Teams are looking to maximise the space under the tub that the rules allow, thus there'll need to be a step in order to satisfy the nose regs. It's like a more extreme version of the 2014 Ferrari nose. They won't (hopefully) all be like that, Mercedes have shown that you can make a fast car without going to the extreme edges of the rules.

The Ferrari F10. More so the front than the rear - but that was a feature of all 2010 cars.

W05, W06, W07 in no particular order or just cannot pick one
then there's such massive gap between the best and 4th best or 2nd best group, which is consisted of Brawn, this year's STR, 2009/10 RBR etc etc in no particular order
Merc of the last 3 years are stunning, no other cars even come close

Not the quickest thing on Earth, but the Marussia 2013 was less ugly than most (maybe because its aero was less developped than most?)

"High wing" in most of the last decade has meant disproportionate, high and narrow rear wings. Next year the rear wing is going to be lower and wider again.
”Best looking” is too nice a term to describe any of these monstrosities, so I'd prefer the more correct term ”least ugly”.

2006 was the last year with nice looking cars, ie before ridiculous aero and lame clunky box shapes. Everything afterwards has looked like crap except maybe some of the original CFD Virgin/Marussia/whatever chassis that have just been "ehh okay I guess" and even in those cases it was probably just because they didn't have money for anything else
