You're put in charge of F1 rule making, what do you do about the track limits inconsistency issue?

Simple, any track cut anywhere is penalised. No room for argument.

White line is the limit, inside wheel has to be touching white line.

Or if you want draconian and races that are full of penalties, outside tyre has to be touching white line!

If you get pushed out there tough, if you spin and go over one, tough.

If you do it numerous times in pursuit of someone tough, if you are warned by Charlie, grid pens or back of grid next race.

It's the only way you will get it sorted, to be overly tough. ANd have no grey areas

I would ban discussion about it and enforce it inconsistently.

Edit: I want more grass, more sant, higher curbs and not care if drivers go wide. Clear cuts (like Rosberg at Monza some years ago) would be a judgement call from time to time).

Change the rules back to what they were last year: none of this "make a reasonable effort" nonsense.

Then use the system they had in Hungary to tell when a car has left the track - and use it for the actual limit of the track, not the Bogus Interpretation of Way Out There.

During the race a first offence could be a warning, and then every other case a time penalty.

Stuff like this is not accidental, and it is not "slower" - no matter what the FIA race director "believes".

There's an entire 'track limits' thread already in existence in which most of the forum has already chipped in their 2 cents.

I prefer physical deterrents - gravel was always the most effective, so put that on exits of runoff so drivers don't just power through (like in Russia or the parabolica exit). Mexico showed the limitations of grass. At chicanes, high kerbs work well - eg Barcelona first corner.

Time penalties just get messy and it looks a bit of a joke, especially in qualifying sessions where half of times are deleted. We never had this problem until the sanitisation of the tracks mid-00s onwards.

Bring back more grass or astroturf for a start. In qualifying, wipe any lap during which all four wheels have been outside the white lines, regardless if whether an advantage has been gained. In race - if no other car on the same lap is within 5 seconds, allow one transgression and give a warning. Next time it happens a 5 second penalty is added during the pitstop or at the end of race.

The only reason I'd allow one chance in the race is that I don't want drivers being too scared of pushing hard when chasing down someone or in fact backmarkers moving off track to let the leaders through. The reason I'd wave this one chance when cars are within 5 seconds of each other is because it's too easy to Canada 2014 it, run off track and gain an advantage by breaking the slipstream on the car behind or ni other cases gaining a run on the car ahead.

Please use one of the various existing threads we already have about this issue:

I also suggest that in the future, please at least make a bit more of an effort to an opening post. We don't need an elaborate essay, but it should have at least a vague statement of your opinion, or of why the thread should be up for debate.
