Isnt Symonds out once Lowe gets there .... suspect he is not going to be too influential going forward,
That might be so but he's still right.

Perhaps it's time to turn the page on this (or do we need a new thread), and with a new pole as well. After all the info on who's not available, not interested, or not wanted, it might be a short list.

Might as well start the Hamilton vs Wehrlein thread. ASAP
Well, have a good one y'alls. ;p

The amount of fanboysm around Button here is too damn high. He is not only retired - he was RIGHT to retire. He is past his time. I think he could think about coming back if Mercedes called him, but I would put my Money anytime that it wont happen (for reasons that are all over this thread). May be he could replace Alonso, if he was hired by MERC, but I dont think that will happen either. The chance of JB to Williams, IMHO, is absolutely zero, but it seems some here want it so badly that create all kinds of reasons and possibilities to backup the idea.

It amazes me people talk about Jenson going to Williams when it is known he turned down that seat months ago! Now that he is more excited than ever to be done with it all he wants it back?

I don't think Button would come back, BUT he has said things like he felt he made the decision too quickly, and has never unless I've missed something, made his 'retirement' official. It was reported he had before Abu Dhabi; but wasn't that just a case of twisting things for a good headline? He said he was approaching Abu Dhabi as his final race, because he thought it was unlikely he'd be back in 2018 and didn't want to 'do a Barrichello' and not mark his final race thinking he'd be back when he wouldn't.
Massa, by contrast, has officially retired. So I think Button is more likely.
As for the Williams thing, I suppose it would depend why he turned them down first time round. If it was because he genuinely didn't fancy it then fine, he's not magically going to fancy it and more now a few weeks later. If it was a question of money, then Williams might have a bit more to offer now.....
I don't think it's particularly likely, but I wouldn't rule it out. Jenson has been interestingly silent on all this so far.

They're out of options at this point, so they'll likely have to go with Wehrlein.
Not sure Bottas would have been a better choice either, they seem to have their hands tied on this whole thing.

This Button thing again ...
Listen to what he said at Abu Dhabi. Not only that he approached it as his final race, but the tone and demenaour all showed a man not only realising he was leaving F1 but embracing it and being fully content with entering a new life without the pressures and scheduled lifestyle in F1. No motivation to do it again basically, and now speculation is that he would either enter a new high-pressure seat at Mercedes or a seat at Williams where he will basically continue another year in the midfield.
I do not see it at all.
And for his too quickly decision, it was rather he said he took the decision too early - i:e announcing it so early in the season meant he struggled to keep up the motivation for the rest of the season because once you're out you are out.
So as much as I like Button, I also like the fact that he is now done with F1 and seems 100 % content with it leaving almost on his own terms.
I think a lot points towards it being either Wehrlein or Bottas in the second Mercedes seat depending on how everything pans out, with Ocon a joker.

Dear God, please, no...

He is the more comfortable choice. Even if he turns out to be not quicker than Wehrlein, he is much easier to handle. They had previously an difficult and an at least half-difficult driver and it really was on the edge. If anything about Wehrlein is true they will have two difficult drivers and one of them is unproven to be quick enough. Bottas is calmer than any of those while he is proved to be quick. The only disadvantage of Bottas is moneyNot sure Bottas would have been a better choice either, they seem to have their hands tied on this whole thing.
Would make sense as Williams needs an experienced driver. I was thinking about this yesterdayWtf.
