Michelin and Motogp are introducing real time wireless tyre technology which will transmit real time data on tyre wear and conditions

No more so than any other data stream coming from a car.

Yes and no. The bandwidth is low so you could easily implement some huge encryption. They won't.

And that's so secure isn't it. Even the remote locking keys aren't safe when you are in a car park, so how secure is the rest of the electronics - The more options you offer a hacker, the easier you make it for him to gain access. If the valves report to the ECU, there's your entry point.

Why are the security concerns any different to direct TPMS ?

Those tyre psi sensors should have a warning on the rims. I have struck them on occasion, it makes you a lot more carefull fitting tyres and ofcourse they are on the outside of the well so a lot harder to avoid.
