I know that Waterloo means victory in UK and defeat in France, but what does it mean in Italy?
BTW, #7 means that Enzo F. liked Abba a lot (it's clear from the original article, not so much from that Google translation)

Defeat as well, but that's not how I read the post. To me it looks like he just doesn't want to raise expectations after the disappointment of last year.

As an Italian, I often use Waterloo meaning an utter defeat.

At a glance, it might seems "oh s**t". But, from what I can understand from the article (expecially from the 7th line), it seems a very very cautious optimism, à la "cross your finger", because of the disappointing 2016 that has left its scares. Just my interpretation.

Same feeling I got from it.

Let me remind you that Turrini has its own style in his articles, generally hard-ish at first to understand what he meant :drunk: , likes to imply, making analogies, attributes rather than saying explicitly.

that's the very tactics those shams and frauds use, no matter what genre no matter what era. there are several others in blogs and seems there are couple of posters of such kind in the Honda thread of other forums as well.

There is a new article on 2017 car. Supposedly, the expectations from coming season is not positive. The essence of the matter is accordingly ( not mine, translation has been taken from reddit ) :

[Rumor]Thing are not looking good for Ferrari

They claim Ferrari engineers are not happy with the wind tunnel and simulator numbers. They have realized that the car won't be as competitive as the W08 so they made changes to the car. They are reviewing the car they will bring to testing. They are going to make significant changes mid season to improve the car. Early part of the year might be difficult for Ferrari based on this. "

Hello 2012.

Let's see, but this team is just a laughing stock.

remember 2015?

Back then there were similar rumours about terrible windtunnel numbers and how awful the car will be at first.

and then the season started and it all was forgotten

They have realized that the car won't be as competitive as the W08 so they made changes to the car.

Mercedes must be full of Ferrari spies for them to know that.

Based on the last two years exactly the opposite of what is predicted in the Italian press usually happens to Ferrari, though this source is relatively reliable (for Italian standards, at least)

As competitive as the W08? And they know this how? Is Mercedes doing 'Pirelli tests' again? :stoned:

I'd be highly surprised if Ferrari was leading the field by the time F1 starts the season, but the so-called 'insiders' haven't given much reason to be seen as anything other than random blogs posting speculation to drive traffic to their ads.

the exact wording is "in Ferrari si sono resi conto che la vettura concepita inizialmente non potrà essere particolarmente competitiva rispetto alla nuovissima e performante Mercedes W08" ("Ferrari realized the car as initially designed could not be particularly competitive compared to the new and high performing Mercedes W08").

It's also the title for a series of bad B-series Italian erotic/horror/thriller movies (giallo). They were adaptations of a popular novel.

I think this is what Turrini means !!! As expected, we are extremely incompetence when it comes to aero.........even with the idea revealed, we have failed to mimic the gimmick.

Well in 2012 it started out an absolute dog, but they managed to crack it in time to keep Alonso in with a chance of the championship.

So they do have recent history of improving after a terrible start.

Although I hope the car looks better than that dog of a machine.

The F1AnalisiTecnica guy (@SmilexTech) is currently speaking on Radio LiveGP.

He said that apparently the new Mercedes is 4" faster than the W07, while the new Ferrari is 3" faster than the SF16-H.

So a gap of 1", on top of the one that was already there during 2016.

I still hope that they got wrong informations, otherwise this is really worrying...  :|

How someone can get to those data is beyond me.
This is just speculation, we'll have to wait and see till Barcellona.

through simulations it's possible to calculate the 3 sec difference for their own car.

But they can't possibly know the W08 is 4 sec faster than the W07

I wouldnt put it down as BS as through personal relations of the engineers, technical meetings and communication via the FIA about simulated lap times (mostly for safety reasons) these things can well leak out. Whether the simulated figures are realistic is a whole different matter though

I'll be cautious, but I can't see any reason not to believe in this story. Ferrari can realistically be 1 sec behind Merc come Aus. I can see it may happen. I'll be prepared for the worst, at least I won't be as much disappointed then.

For the people who want to see the positive side, these rumours might have been deliberately leaked out by Ferrari to lower the expectations to surprise positively for a change  :p

those must be simulator numbers.........

The only positive thing is that ferrari's simulator lack accuracy as compared to Merc.

Improvement might be more than 3 seconds........albeit the same logic could work both ways  :rotfl:

Like the Best Journalists, we can all make up Unnamed Sources and 'clarify' this as meaning that Ferrari was testing on their virtual Interlagos track while Mercedes was working its way around Singapore. Clearly, using this Baseless Information, these numbers actually 'prove' that Ferrari is to be the dominant team in 2017. :stoned:

Let's just wait and see.

Before pre-season starts: "Ferrari is in bad shape, already 2s slower than Merc."

Pre-season testing: "Ferrari is up there with Merc and RBR, maybe a bit faster in race trim."

Melbourne: "Ferrari is behind but not too far, didn't show full potential."

And so on.

That, historically, the third year in Ferrari has not been a successful year for the previous Ferrari drivers (Lauda, Massa, Alonso).

So, basically, statistics & BS

That, historically, the third year in Ferrari has not been a successful year for the previous Ferrari drivers (Lauda, Massa, Alonso).

Lauda: 2nd, lost the championship after an almost fatal incident, previously dominated

Massa: 2nd, best result of his career, lost in the last corner the title

Alonso: 2nd, lost the title marginally

I think Ferrari would be happy about any of this at this point.

That confirms it: If Kimi is this happy they must know that they're at least two seconds faster than the rest!
