Johnny Depp could not have done worse by owning a racing team.

Yep, AIR (American International Racers) raced Lola T70s in the late 60s followed by F5000s into the 70s

Dan Blocker ('Hoss' Cartwright in the 60s TV series 'Bonanza') owned and entered cars in the CanAm series in the 60s. One having 'Pure HOSSpower' written across the rear spoiler!

As distinct from racing team owners acting as racing team owners?

I think Caterham had one of those......

More recently Manor.

Not an actor per se, but Cedric the Entertainer owned Champ Cars driven by Nelson Phillippe and Dan Clarke (CTE Racing).

I think the F5000 effort was in '68 and again in '70.

Which reminds, Dick Smothers raced F5000 in the year between -- if I'm correct for once (twice would spin my head off).

Proving my utter disregard for multi-quote skills, Dan also owned John Cannon's F5000 (Formula Continental) title-winning McLaren M10B in 1970.

He was, at least, at Long Beach.

But no role in the team, yep

False. Ken Block participated in FIA WRC officially. So you can consider him to be an official rally driver, with bad results though.

Ken Block owns DC Clothing. It started as skateboarding shoes, but now, virtually all Americans under 30 absolutely eat the stuff up.

Didn't Atomic Kitten run a GT team? Lol, well let them paint it yellow and turn up to a few races!

Flinty is a massive bike fan and has won TT's and plenty of Supersport races in BSB. He is running the factory Yamaha team in BSB I think this year.

I think Paris threw a few quid into Vinales early 125 career yes. No idea why!!

Wouldn't surprise me if George Harrison threw a quid some guys way in F1 or Hill's career as they were good friends. Not sure he ever owned a team though.

Kid Jensen obviously did? Not a movie star though.

I think she just threw a fair bit of money into what was the BQR team so that she could go on the likes of the Jay Leno show and say she run a racing team. The fact Maverick was there and won a race was a happy coincidence. I believe it all ended in court for breach of contract, probably to no ones surprise.

Yes, he did. Damon talks about it in his autobiography, "Watching the Wheels".

Michael Jordan, arguably the best basketball player ever, has owned a motorcycle team. Plus he was involved with the movie "Space Jam."

So did Clarence Seedorf the footballer, he gave Hector Barbera his first win.

Flint has been involved for many years now. but isn't an actor!

Keanu Reeves has put a lot of money into a bike project that might race sometime, but at the moment builds very unique hand built specials.

Not an actor but I didn't know what thread to put this in....

Red bull basically did with football what they did with f1, with much more angst resulting from the fans. I particularly like the line about following the letter of the law, but not the spirit!

There's evidence to suggest that Caterham F1 was owned and run by the Chuckle Brothers.

That's an insult to the chuckle brothers as they were successful.

Delph, I was reading yesterday about the utter hatred from German fans towards FC Leipzig who are owned and funded by Red Bull, the media call them names in papers and everything. Apparently they have vaulted several leagues in successive season and are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga.

We had the same things in this country with clubs being taken over or amalgamated like MK Dons and Rushden and Diamonds, and though hatred is a harsh word, some of the stuff going on in Germany towards Leipzig is pretty bad!!
