Hopefully a nice easy one.

 

I have quite a few pictures that show Peter Gethin and Gerry Birrell together, usually Gerry in Nomex and Peter in "civies". What was the relationship between the two?  I am assuming as they were both in "works" Chevrons then one was helping the other, or was Peter managing Gerry to some extent, or just friends?

They were the works Chevron Formula Two drivers in 1973 - Gethin had done most of the 1972 season with Chevron, scoring a memorable victory at Pau which - if memory serves - he once described as his greatest win.  Quite something.

 

Birrell spent the 1972 season in a private Sports Motors March when he wasn't three-wheeling around Europe in a works ETCC Cologne Ford Capri, although he finished the season with Mass (and Gethin) in the works Chevron sportscar team in the Springbok championship.

 

They were probably friendly team mates - both nice people - but Peter wasn't Gerry's manager.

 

All that said, I (and others no doubt) would love to see pictures, Steve!!

I shall try and get permission. Trouble, every shot shows Gerry in the car, or at least in overalls, Peter always in civvies, usually talking to Gerry in the car, as if advising!!

My name is Alex Shore, I am Kara Birrell's half brother. I am currently developing a film documentary about Gerry and was wondering if you still had the photos you mentioned above?
