Some of you may have heard although it isn't generally known - until now, that the 1972 Connew F.1 car is to be shown, fully restored to Austrian Grand Prix livery at this Summer's Festival of Speed at Goodwood.

It will not be a running car but should otherwise look just like it did in Austria in August 1972.

We only received confirmation of our invitation a week or so ago and thus far, trying to find three night's accommodation anywhere near Chichester has proved to be impossible.

So I'm just wondering if anyone on this esteemed forum has any suggestions where two extremely elderly men and one somewhat younger one might lay their heads?

Are you 'avin a laugh, Connie? One disabled 70 year-old and an almost 69 year-old! Er, no, not for one second!

Another laugh.... Premier Inn, Littlehampton, 2 rooms, 3 nights..... £1068. Crooks!

If the disabled 70 year old is fit enough to get in a caravan why not consider hiring a caravan for the weekend ? My wife and I hired one for the Revival weekend in 2015 and it was the best thing we could have done . According to Goodwood website , they have on site camping at the Festival , so no queueing to get in and in a caravan you won't get flooded every time there is a midsummer thunderstorm . We hired ours from a company near Shaftesbury , it is on site when you arrive and they collect it when you leave you just take your own food and drink .

Have you tried Chichester University?  Their prices are rock-bottom for basic but adequate accomodation, and you could (possibly) walk to Goodwood House from there. Just joking, but it's only a couple of miles. I know they haven't got much left for the Revival, but it's worth a try. Tel 01243 816069 or e-mail BedandBreakfast@chi.ac.uk  - cost is around £53 per night, yes that's right, you didn't read it wrong. Bargain.

BTW You don't have to travel far to get lower prices  - I stayed in Southampton last year in a hotel close to the motorway, and it only took a 45 minute drive to reach the Goodwood car parks. The rooms were the same price as normal, not hiked up like hotels closer to the circuit.

I am not sure if Goodwood will be laying on transport around the site for Peter, if not I cannot recommend these highly enough, when my folks asked if i would take them when they were 75 ish I said only on condition they booked a pair of these, the only time they have listened to me and they were most grateful I made the suggestion.

Contact Shopmobility – Electric and manual wheelchairs are available to hire from Shopmobility and must be booked in advance of the event by calling 0300 500 8085. Shopmobility will be based in the disabled car park and are open from 07:30 – 23:00 on Saturday and 07:30 -19:00 on Sunday.

Shopmobility is obviously much better than nothing, but you must be limited to one side of the track, which would rule out the usual TNF get-together by the Startline Bar among other things. The only thing that puts me off the Festival nowadays is what it does to my long-suffering legs, it takes me a couple of days to recover, and I've spoken to a few others who feel much the same. They should have an additional "ever so lightly disabled day" for unfortunates like us, wheelchairs and ramps everywhere and no crowds at all.

Can wheelchairs, mobility buggies etc not use the various track crossing points when they're open?

Yes, that is the case.

Getting to and from the car parks, there are courtesy vehicles with very helpful drivers.  Gate 1 is where tha Shopmobility people are usually based.  You can also get buggies to take you around the site.  The Goodwood staff are very good at summoning them.

Shopmobility users can cross the track between batches of runs where the foot bridges are located. Waiting for a batch of cars to pass is not perfect but far better than having to walk ;-)

If money's an issue, I'd put $20 on my Visa if it'd help anyone in your group get around.

If anyone's in the same boat as Barry, I've found the Isle of Wight a reasonable location for Goodwood in the past. OK you have to factor in a ferry crossing. but not that expensive if you book in advance,  and B&Bs on the Island are OK (and a lot more affordable than more obvious Sussex locations, as they tend to be overlooked).

Just a thought.

Guildford or Portsmouth aren't horrendously far away either, their prices were "reasonable" when I looked. I'm not as close as I normally am this year but only paid about £38 for a site in Liphook.

P.S. Wonderful news to see the Connew there.
