There was, for a time, a Chinetti Prize at Le Mans that allowed up and coming French drivers to take part in their country's biggest race. Does anyone know what years it was awarded and who was given rides? Also, how was this financed? Was the Auto Club of France or the Automobile Club of the West involved?

Many thanks

This from my friend Louis Monnier at the ACO - sorry it took some time...

Regarding NART entries for young drivers.
- Accurate appellation is Chinetti Trophy
- Started in 1972 with the Dino 246 (Laffeach/Doncieux), later Migault, Guitteny, Haran, Buchet... ended ?
- For drivers of the ACO school only (on Bugatti circuit created in 1965)
- Petrol by BP
- Tyres by Goodyear

The original idea, apart a guaranteed NART entry for the 24 Hours, was a souvenir (a tributeā€¦) to the Rodriguez brothers
internationally discovered by Chinetti.

There is a bit of information here about 1966 and 1967.
