Keep them coming, Oscar...

This one shows that they got pretty close at that dodgy little kink. But not as close as competitors at Woody Point in 1936.

A long time ago we had a thread about that circuit...

Someone was going to make it happen again, as I recall.

Beautiful, as always.

You may be interested to know this track is in use again. Since 2011 a Leopolis Grand Prix, event for historic cars is run on the same track.

I don't remember...

If you can work the 'search' feature here you can read it.

In fact quite a number of threads on the subject already:

https://forums.autos...es#entry3457340

https://forums.autos...es#entry2014016

https://forums.autos...ges#entry575688

https://forums.autos...ges#entry784886

https://forums.autos...val/?hl= sitges

https://forums.autos...es#entry1939796

https://forums.autos...es#entry2693975

And this page of Peter Morley is also still online

http://users.telenet...s.bvba1/sitges/

(to use the search function, just right click on the "advanced search" button at the very right of the 'search' panel, then open in new tab or window. This opens the 'search form' where you can enter the words you are looking for in 'find words'. As unfortunately the forum has been deivided into three parts ("The Nostalgia Forum", "Historical Research" and "TNF´s Archive" - this is also the reason why the "normal search function is almost useless) you have to select all three of them (or whatever else you want to include) in the "Find in forum" list. To me the options "Match - Search title and content" and "Display - As a topic list" work the best. When you click on a certain entry in the result list then it will directly link to the last post in the thread where the keywords ar mentioned.

Yes, with a taxi-way in the place of the Melling Road.

Reno- Stead Air Force base purchased by Bill Lear in the late 60’s as hq for his Indy Steam car program. Part of this was plans to create a duplicate of the Speedway to test his cars. Never got past the earth moving- grading stage. BUT- the track is STILL visible on google maps today. Look just to the left of the north end of the diagonal runway shown in ozpata’s map.

What a difference it makes to have that water showing to the left!

While I instantly recognised the shape of the circuit, it took on a whole different outlook with the sea there. Also the village.

Great work as usual, Oscar...

Don't think that a lack of comment means they're not appreciated.

Agreed.  So I don't keep posting appreciative comments, I've taken to clicking the Like button instead.  Some of them are real works of art!

He has achieved something in the level of clarity that very few circuit maps show...

The way Oscar has determined to make them is the best I've ever seen.

Hear, hear!

I am collecting the best catalogue of race circuits that I've ever had.

Well done, Oscar, and thank you.

What a place that used to be...one of the most atmospheric motor racing locations I‘ve witnessed. Have you ever seen it in the flesh, Ray?

Not Zandvoort, no...

European circuits I've seen are:

Monaco, Le Mans, Pau, parts of the Targa Florio, Bari, Pescara, a bit of the Mille Miglia course, Brno, a few metres of Bremgarten, Solitude, much of the Nurburgring, the old Spa, Reims, Rouen and Amiens.

British circuits are Castle Combe, Brands Hatch (short and long) and Cadwell Park.

You ticked off some of the great road courses there, lovely! Having said that, there are always more than enough reasons for another trip or ten, aren‘t there...

Indeed...

I also drove around the original Watkins Glen and Elkhart Lake and most (if not all) of Savannah.

Brno will be a real test for Oscar.

Just the thing...

A brilliant place for racing. I will never forget Mike Argetsinger's comment about a few tiny F3 cars going down a long straight, a rear view, somewhere not far from the start line.

'Evocative' was the word he used.

And why not...

brnof3.jpg

Such a big circuit for such little cars.

It has a real feel of the circuits from the early GP's pre-WWI.

Almost...

This is, I'm pretty sure, the straight away from the start line. Unfortunately my photos aren't the right ones to confirm that. The pic looks to me like the cars going through to start their second lap.

But I do dig the mechanics in their undies!

if anybody is interested you can drive in the 1947-63 or the 65 version in Grand Prix Legends

is very simple to install now a days and it will give you a chance to drive in a lot of classic tracks, if I recall correctly well over 500 and counting

Sounds good. Until you remember that of original tracks you only drove Monza because it was only one where there was a chance of surviving. Ok, there are probably easy airport tracks but I bet that for example in any version of Brno car would be upside down long before lap ended.

The only difference is that now I'm tethered to my mobile while this morning I was on Macca's free 'Wi-Fry'.

Sorry, just to make myself clear...

I can now see them. It was only while I was at McDonalds that I couldn't, but tethered to my phone I can. And I could see all other pics at Macca's too.

I would have thought that the problem is obvious.
There’s a secret electronic tweak in the picture file which
carefully vets the location of the reader.
These maps are much too good to be allowed to be
viewed by someone sitting in a Maccas.!!
