With some news about the McLaren car for the new 2017 F1 season, it's time to start a new thread:

The car is confirmed to be called "MP4-32" and have some orange from Zak in person:

Please continue any discussions about the MP4-32 in here, thank you.

A McLaren thread not started by Disgrace. No excuses then.

Lets start as we mean to go on...

As corrected on the previous thread Zac did not confirm that there would be Orange. He either inferred that there would be, or wouldn't be, depending on how you read the inference.

I wouldn't be surprised.

But my prediction is that the car will be more heavily CASTROL branded than many people are expecting.

The fact that McLiveryrumour is the main story on autosport is really life imitating social. They've basically turned this thread into news!

Castrol - got it's name because it used castor oil in it's lubricants, which, when used in early aviation engines gave pilots a bit of a problem with their digestive systems.

Let's hope it makes the MP4-32 run faster too.

Ron always said retro liveries were just pointless pandering and going backwards, in a sport where pushing forwards was the ultimate goal. In a way, I agree. All this modern 'retro' nostalgia is just a cynical marketing exercise. To be honest, this 'McLaren livery revolution' just smacks of certain members of the management team wanting to go out of their way to do the opposite to Ron Dennis.

I'm not saying orange isn't nice, but the reason it's being applied is another matter entirely.

My suggestion to orange livery fans is to try Atlas theme for their Autosport forum. It has orange color bits here and there.

Unlikely I know, but I hope the car turns out to be a silver bullet. A regular podium challenger would be a great success.

Sources suggest that the change coming for 2017 could be much greater, and hark back to the famous orange livery that the team ran in Can-Am and in F1 from 1968 to 1971.

Am I the only one that wouldn't like an orange McLaren? I know it's a iconic in its own way, but the victorious and iconic McLaren isn't remembered in orange...

No, you aren't. TBH, there are some better options than orange IMO.

IMO a little touch of orange as a reminder could be nice, not a full orange livery.

It is always exciting to see a new car thread. I really hope this year we will be able to fight for podiums. I believe this new era will suit our drivers' driving style.

Wow, quite like the sean bull design up in this thread! :)

New teamgear as teased by Stoffel would suggest grey as a main colour... and then some orange probably. Then again,  the shirt doesn't contain any orange...

I was thinking somewhere among these lines, but I like the Sean Bull design even better.

I have to agree.  They were never particularly successful in orange, it was arguably a different team.

They should be seeking to establish a new, hopefully successful, image, not harking back to a near forgotten era of moderate results.

As the black was not a color to fit a McLaren.
And Orange, as we won't see a McLaren in red and white and as the grey area was the Merc color area, is the most iconic color of this team.

And, amha, they maybe would like to have a visual-recognisable McLaren color and/or scheme. As the Renault yellow, Ferrari red, Merc grey, RB tricolor...

If they're going with orange I hope they make it all orange like the test livery a few years back. Just a plain orange car rather than the black/grey ones with finnicky orange parts posted above.

I'm seeing lots of orange ultimately on mclaren twitter, is it only me or they are hinting the look of the net mp4?

Plain orange would be too boring for my taste.

Jenson Button sort of confirms that it will be an orange livery on it; and in addition does he want to get back into F1 in 2018, he says....

Interestingly AFAIK these four cars pretty much sum up liveries that were used when there wasn't any title sponsor.

No color on the jacket.
So it will be a white car with black lines...

The difference between Ron and Zac is that Ron can't see a point to a livery change, whereas Zac is a MADMAN and can...

It's going to underperform.

For some reason I am un-becoming a Ferrari fan. Perhaps its the loads of cash they spend and still cannot get a car up front often. Thusly I am hoping McLaren beats Ferrari this season.

I think I'm also becoming an Alonso fan - followed his feed and through that as well as some of his antics last season, seems like he's got a good spirit of it all.

Furthermore I am hoping Renault make significant strides as well this season.

So long as they move away from that all over charcoal livery (and not go back to red and white) I'm happy.

I always wonder how many female members are in this forum tbh and once I tempted to make a poll but I gave up doing that.
