Just used post image without difficulty on the David Beard thread. I have not, however, gone back to check my earlier posted images.

Why can't you get into them?

Have you forgotten your password? The e.mail address you used?

The word 'upload' should occur there somewhere, Gary...

It's always there for me, and if you see your galleries you're logged in.

Did you click on 'thumbnails for forums'?

If you carry over 'Hotlink for Forums' you get it full size.

And please, this thread is not for testing...

So far so good, but you need to copy the second link in the list, Doug. The one that says 'Direct link'. Not the one that just says 'Link'.

Then, in the reply screen, click on the green image link in the second row (if you hover the cursor over it, you'll get a tooltip that says 'image').

screenshot-forums.autosport.com_2017-03-

A box saying 'image properties' will then pop up; left-click in the text area and then right-click to paste the image address that you have just copied. Click 'OK' - the picture will then appear in the reply box.

screenshot-forums.autosport.com_2017-03-

If you wish you can then press 'preview post' in order to see what the whole post will look like, or simply press 'post' without using preview.

NOTE THAT SOMETIMES WHEN YOU PRESS 'POST' THE PICTURE WILL NOT APPEAR IMMEDIATELY. IF THIS HAPPENS - DON'T PANIC! DON'T DELETE THE POST EITHER! SIMPLY REFRESH THE PAGE IN YOUR BROWSER AND THE PICTURE WILL APPEAR. THE SAME THING CAN HAPPEN IF YOU EDIT A POST CONTAINING A PICTURE.

Surely, Speedy, it's simpler just to copy the 'Hotlink for Forums' line?

It then becomes a one-step process, just paste it into the post and the pic appears (after that frustrating page refresh, of course)?

to keep telling how to post pictures to this wonderful forum proves what a joke it is.

A real shame that great material will never male it here and great material added in the past has been lost forever

It's not hard, Terry...

And it is possible to restore stuff which has been lost. If the original poster is still around and retained the pic on his computer, he can go back and edit it in after uploading it to Postimage.

Yea Ray, but it's 2019 mate; compared to other places this forum's software is a bag of old shite. I post more than my fair share of photos here but it's SO SIMPLE elsewhere.   :smoking:

I am getting this error "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community." when trying to post a jpg from Postimg.cc and also another cheapie free hosting site...If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

I don't think I'll have time to try changing the jpg to a bmp extension tonight...the real world is interfering...

Thanks...

That message can occur when the image extension has been incorrectly assigned by the image host. For example if the file was called 'image.jpg' or 'image.jpeg' on your computer before you uploaded it, then it might have been renamed 'image.jpg.jpg' or 'image.jpeg.jpg'. There might even be another image extension within the file name, preserved when it's been copied from elesewhere.

Or there may be letters or numbers after the .jpg element of the name - that again can spook the software.

It's a while since I tried posting any photographs, and there was a time when I used to post dozens which people seemed to appreciate. I have just tried posting a photo on the Keith Schellenberg thread, using a Facebook link (which is where I post all my photos nowadays because it is simplicity itself) which is something I have managed to do in the past but all I get now is the line quoted in Dave Ware's penultimate post; "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community".

I have recently acquired the late Peter Rickitt's collection which contains a mass of high-quality photographs from the 1950s and 1960s which I would be happy to share with you on here, but can I be bothered to negotiate the tortuous maze necessary? In short. NO.

Is it any wonder that photographers have deserted this forum?

Do we all have the time to go back to edit everything we ever posted, Ray? I think not.

Alan- all a bit of a shame really, isn't it? This used to be the "go to" place for our kind of old stuff but I suspect that the audience is a fraction of what it used to be.

Uploading photos here has always been a pain, it really has not improved since I pitched up here, despite several software changes. I'll continue to plod on with the David Beard Memorial photographers' thread, from time to time, but having to put my shots onto flickr (or some other host) first is not really what I want to do. Copyright infringements are now laughable and the more "sites" one has to go via makes it worse.

Postimage allows you to upload a multitude of photos all at once and then you can post them all at once...

As you post, if you wish, you can go between each of the pics to put in a caption.

And I do accept that it might be hard to go back and edit stuff back in, I'm happy to do it if anyone asks, but nobody seems to ask.

If you look at my 2012 trip thread in the Paddock Club you'll see there are 700 or more photos in that thread, originally about two thirds of them were posted on Imageshack and sometimes when I go through the thread (not very often, I have to say) I find pics have disappeared and I repost them using Postimage.

Another problem which did exist with Postimage was that they changed the extension from .org to .cc, so if you used Postimage to post anything prior to that time you have to go back and just change the 'org' to 'cc' and the pic magically reappears.

I know it's more than a one-step process, but it's not the end of the world. If you want to send me those pics I'll post them for you.

And if you want to put a pic from Fecesbook on here and it has the 'image extension' message, all you do is save the file to your computer, saving it as a .jpg file, and put it up via Postimage or Flickr or whatever.

It may take your two minutes to do that, it may not. But it does answer the problem.
