I guess Gasly doesn't bring a big enough cheque to get that seat time

More details here: https://www.motorspo...1-tests-884632/

Gelael will make his official debut in a Formula 1 car on 18-19 April during the first in-season F1 test in Bahrain. He will also take part in the Hungary test before the summer break and drive the STR12 in Abu Dhabi after the end of the 2017 season.

So Kvyat and Sainz confirmed for 2018? If Gasly really had a chance for next year they wouldn't have sold it out to someone as talented as a bag of hay.

Gasly will presumably drive for Red Bull in the tests

But Red Bull are his sponsors, no?

He had other sponsors fund his early career (he didn't join Red Bull until 3 years after he started in single seaters).

Maybe Toro Rosso have also found a new sponsor for their engine then.

But they are now, so its not as if he needs money to drive for STR. I think he's just being phased out by them - he's not set the world on fire in GP2, then his comments last year about replacing Kvyat (albeit a bit unfairly distorted by the media) didn't go down too well with Marko. And once you're an enemy of Marko, well....

STR selling out. I guess Red Bull are very comfortable with their current crop of drivers and are now happy to sell seat time. Suggests Sainz is unlikely to be released any time soon.

They're supporting his Super Formula drive, so why would they do that if they plan to get rid of him?

If they had faith in his F1 abilities I'm sure he'd be in Kvyat's seat right now.

Maybe there's a Damascene conversion scheduled for after the Russian GP weekend.

Need licence points to get a seat. Seems he has none and will never have enough.

Should be a good battle between him and Cellis Jr. Can't wait!
