I think the Baku Grand Prix flatters Bottas slightly. He really messed up at the start and would have remained at the back, while Hamilton was in commanding lead. But after loads of SC's it was Hamilton's turn to hit trouble through no fault of his own and somehow Bottas ended up 2nd and Hamilton 5th. I think that messy race has somewhat distorted the points balance in the battle.

Bottas point gap to Hamilton is similar to the one between Ricciardo and Verstappen. Sometimes, the point standing does not tell the whole story.

Sure Lewis hasn't managed to maximise points in the last few races but:

1)  He was the quickest man in Baku and would have won if it were not for a Mercedes blunder with his headrest.

2)  He was also arguably the quickest man in Austria too and still managed to get 4th place after a gearbox penalty at a track where overtaking is tough.

3)  He has a string of tracks ahead that suit his style.  In a few races time he may have clawed back Vettels advantage.

4)  At some point Vettel will be taking a penalty too.

Its a long season and plenty could happen yet.   It feels like Mercedes are starting to understand the tyres and still have a small advantage in qualifying.

Has it been confirmed that Vettel will not be able to re-use the engine parts that was replaced earlier?

It appears unlikely that he will last the season with these turbos, but it doesnt seem impossible. We had contradicting reports on that one (from all except of one failed to all are salvageable): It could be nothing, but it's also possible that he will get two seperate grid penalties.

If Vettel need to take grid penalties due to components, most probably Spa is the place to do that, even though similar parts banking is not possible as Hamilton did earlier there.

Well i'm not holding my breath on this one. It is also likely that Hamilton and Bottas will get grid penalties later this year and therefore canceling out the effect of Vettel's penalties.

And we all remember last year and how people were saying that Rosberg for sure would get hit by reliability problems. And in the end it was Hamilton's engine that failed  :p

Massive downplaying

"Valtteri did a fantastic job, so he thoroughly deserved to win," Hamilton said of Bottas' Austrian GP performance. "When you look at the results, he's also had a DNF as well. He's generally had a better season I would say so far.
"There was never a point that he was never in the fight. I think it was only you guys who potentially suggested that he was never in the battle. I always assumed he still was, and that just shows he still is."
