Ok, it probably won't work but as a way of "hiding" the shark fins, seeing as we're stuck with them for 2017, why not make them see through? If they were made from the same stuff that Red Bull made their canopy out of, it would be strong enough and the rules could specify the area that denotes the shark fin and that area has to be made of a clear material.

That way, we wouldn't see it quite so much

Just a thought

They could incorporate LED lights or numbers to showcase lapped cars/lead cars/flagged cars etc, might assist viewers more so than drivers in seeing track position.

Still don't understand this shark fin hate. I don't think they look that bad, besides the name 'shark fin' sounds very F1.

These t-wings on the other hand...

I see what you did, you accidentally clicked 'Start New Topic' instead of just 'Reply' to the existing Shark fin/I hate what F1 cars look like thread.

I have nothing against shark fins or T wings.

The aerodynamic appendixes I cannot stand and wish were culled are front wings and bardgeboards.

new thread w/poll:  "Shark Fin Should Be Renamed"

---------------------------------------------------

[Polls]

what do you think of shark fin?

  1. I like shark fin and think it should be renamed

  2. I like shark fin and think calling it shark fin is fine

  3. I'm indifferent / dont care about shark fin and think it should be renamed

  4. I'm indifferent / dont care about shark fin and think calling it shark fin is fine

  5. I hate shark fin and think it should be renamed

  6. I hate shark fin and think calling it shark fin is fine

what is appropriate name?

  • shark fin

  • sharp fin

  • super fin

  • stream fin

  • flag fin

  • mast fin

  • board fin

  • paddle fin

  • blade fin

  • protractor fin

  • vertical fin

  • van fin

  • aero fin

  • rear fin

  • engine fin

  • tail fin

  • dorsal fin

  • caudal fin

  • crest fin

  • crescent fin

  • others (please specify)

--------------------------------------

[Opening Post]

I neither like nor dislike shark fin, if it stays let it be, if it goes let it go, I couldnt care less either way. I dont think it should be mandated to be transparent or painted either. Transparent materials tend to be heavy anyway. However I do mind one thing, ie how it's called. Those fins dont really look like shark's fin, dont remind me of shark's fin at all. So I think it should be renamed. What do you think?

When the fin was introduced to P1 cars, Mulsanne Mike and others started referring to it as the "Big Honking Fin". You could substitute the middle word for something less family friendly if you wanted.

Someone really ought to start a bread van racing series. I'd watch.

They should add a seat and put a pillion passenger on it (don't need to change anything on the T wing).

Color me surprised: purpledhaireddolphin is asking for transparent shark fins.
Maybe chrome will do the trick. ;)

Good idea, but liveries can hide them pretty well too. Haas did a good job hiding theirs. I hardly notice it at all, and I hate the fins.

I don't think it would be strong enough, the Red Bull Aeroscreen is shaped for strength and still had a support structure around it.

At racing speed from the stands you can't really read any numbers as they go past.
