Loose Fillings was started by Graham Howard, Garry Simkin and Terry Wright back in 1999 to document the history and news of historic air-cooled racing cars. No less than 49 issues were distributed and redistributed by post and email worldwide.
After Graham’s death in 2013, and with the general drift to online publishing, there was going to be a bumper and final 50th printed edition. But somehow writing, composing, publishing and selling Power Without Glory: Racing the Big-Twin Cooper has prevented that, and it must now, and probably for ever, be a ‘work-in-progress’.
Instead there is now a website at www.loosefillings.com where all 49 issues can be downloaded as pdfs and an intermittent blog where the latest item is Ray Bell’s account of Bob Britten’s wonderful BN12 ’500’ car under the headline Masterful Modern Reinterpretation. Other recent items have included a link to Doug Nye’s account of Gordon Murray’s purchase of the pulse-jet powered Cooper, the latest understanding of RALT 1’s suspension and dirt-track racing Bugattis (yes, there is a connection). There are some pages from #48 below.
There is also a Facebook page https://www.facebook.../BigTwinCooper/ which is linked to the website and you can variously ‘like’ or ‘link’ to these for notice of future postings. As always, Loose Fillings is happy to get news or receive potential contributions about air-cooled racing cars, mainly, but not necessarily historic.
