It's wednesday evening and stil no Build up thread. F1 is well and truly doomed.

The man who is dominating the headlines today will appear tomorrow in the FIA press conference. Yippie.

Thursday, April 13, 1500 hours local time (1200 GMT)

Part 1:  Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Sergio Perez (Force India), Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren)
Part 2: Fernando Alonso (McLaren), Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Jolyon Palmer (Renault)

Friday, April 14, 2000 hours local time (1700 GMT)

Part 1: Zak Brown (McLaren), Christian Horner (Red Bull), Claire Williams (Williams)
Part 2: James Allison (Mercedes), Mattia Binotto (Ferrari), James Key (Toro Rosso)

Even if the race is taking place during the night conditions are expected to be quite hot, suppostely an advantage for Ferrari. Traction is important on this track which is probably an advantage for Mercedes. In the last two years Bahrain was one of the best tracks for the Scuderia too.

It's all set up for another great round in the battle Hamilton vs. Vettel.....or can the Fins bounce back?

Remember when we had last year for the last time the elimination qualifying? I dont either.

It's wednesday evening and stil no Build up thread. F1 is well and truly doomed.

It doesn't help that we've only got a week between races, but I did a wee personal audit in the archive folders on the various thread lengths about buildup/[Practice/Quali]/Races and think that it's more indicative of the decline in interest than the Television viewer threads - if fans are losing their motivation, what chance does the sport have...

So thank you - and I'm really looking forward to this one - the race is one thing, I love the evening light as day gives way to night, it brings a magic that F1 has lost - but there's going to be shed loads of gossip about so many things other than the race...

EDIT:  It's also at a decent time, so I'll dig out a bottle of something bubbly to make up for the perfumed water the poor guys who put their lives on the line to give us thrills and spills will have to make do with

Just to clarify, so they're getting shorter. If they are then I totally agree, I've only been on here for a year and the OP's for F1 weekends have got shorter and shorter over time so you're totally right. Even the OPs I've done for the races which I did quite a lot of at the end of last year, are usually just the grid, the circuit some tyres and then a load of videos that makes it a bit bigger.

Thanks to everyone who puts their own time and effort into making some great opening posts by the way!

That's the one, just a different image. Strange that you're not seeing it. I checked two other devices and they show it like normal.

Bottas first looks at Samspade sheepishly, then points to Hamilton signing autographs in front of him.

No significant changes to the circuits (kerbs, etc.) and no change to the DRS zones since last year.

This race we should be able to get some indications as to which package is ahead. I suspect Ferrari might have an advantage over tyre wear which should make it the best package.

Well the last two years have not been kind to them here.

They're still apparently lacking their 2017-spec MGU-K, which will hurt.

I wouldn't think this is a place to see a resurgence in their competitiveness.

EDIT: By the way, which tires do they have this weekend?

bahrain is a fantastic race with the corner where its exit is the entry to the last corner before the intermediate straight

Not really, given its in the evening. I miss the old days of super hot Bahrain races - that was something unique at least.

Last year at many races Mercedes were really lucky with unusually cool weather, especially on Sundays, so hopefully this year we are due some scorchers.

No rain this weekend though (I remember it did rain on race morning in the first Bahrain race, but not a drop since then).
