Whilst there have been mentions of this car elsewhere I thought it might be worth starting a new thread so all the information we have could be collected in the one place. The proper/full name is the Elfin Type 100 chassis M6548 with the V6 Clisby F1 engine.

To start things off, here is an article from the short-lived Australian Weekly Autonews February 1965 (with thanks to Cooper997).

What are the two front engines cars in the rear ground likely to be?
Such a talented man Mr Clisby; I am not belittling the skills of the race car designers and builders.

The only front-engined cars at the Elfin works in the period would have been Clubmans...

I don't think these are front-engined cars, however. More likely another Mono or two.

To start things off

there is more

I have a pdf file from long ago when I scanned in the Road&Track / Sports Car Graphic and Australian Autosportsman articles on the Clisby engine.

I haven't been able to locate the articles themselves.

Does anyone have an idea how I can put a pdf on here ?

Else if you are interested I could mail the file.

Marc, I would welcome a full PDF version of your set if possible, for my files with the other Clisby  material.

There is another thread re this engine, and the car on here somewhere with input from Kevin Drage [Kaydee on here] who did a lot of work on this engine.

If somebody less of a technophobe than me could find it and add the link.

Good to see the original Clisby link added by Tim. Some interesting info there too, just a pity so much of the related photos are now gone.

Never one to miss a potential opportunity, here's Jack Brabham, with ?? and Harold Clisby. Published in the June 1962 Sporting Car Club of SA's 'Wheelspin'.

Looking very much like Sandown's old pit area, so probably taken at the March 62 Sandown International (first ever Sandown).meeting.

Harold Clisby's Clisby Douglas Spl and Elfin Mono Clisby V6...

Nothing new for members of this forum I suspect which does pull together some of your contributions over the years, especially those of Kevin Drage

Guys,

Please see reproduction of a contemporary article about the Elfin T100 Clisby from the 'Canberra Times' in 1965

I have followed this thread with interest and have looked at all the photographs, including on primotipo. The rear springs are described as being operated by levers. The photographs are not clear at all in showing the mechanism. Can someone explain or draw how they are operated, for want of a clearer photograph?.
Many thanks
Roger Lund

I have by no means knowledge of Elfins. I've learned all I know about them from this and the Mono thread.

The fact that in Europe there is so little known of them makes them more interesting.

The 'lever'  term here is a a play with words.............they didn't know what pushrod (green line) suspension was back then.  .......I think ;-)

Totally wrong description...

Take a look at the front suspension from James' car:

SJL7456_1.jpg

Garry extended the length of the dampers by welding tapered tube onto them. The tapered tube came from a furniture manufacturer, Namco, who used it for table legs.

Brian Rawlings worked for Elfin at this time and knew about the source, later when he built a 'Mileage Marathon' car some of the boffin-types who were roaming around the pits looking at all the cars, most of which were built on huge budgets alongside of Brian's, asked him where he got the tapered chrome moly tube.

"That's not chrome moly," he replied, "it's Namco!"

They went away scratching their heads and wondering why they'd never heard of this material before.

Thanks a lot. That is how I envisaged it. Ignoring TOTALLY, to save wasted words, the rest of the nodding operation of the Bugatti T251 suspension, I envisaged the Elfin as a similar simple rod/tube extension on the end of the spring / damper assembly, as you say. As a recognised non engineer that is why I always like to take shots of cars less bodywork rather than just a shot of another car on another bit of track. OT, that is why I like Goodwood events so much, clear access in every sense of the word.
Thanks again.

You might find they are 69km from you at the moment Rob, but I get your drift!

Absolute pleasure working with James and KD, ‘twas a winter Covid locked-up project for us!

TNF long timers will be pleased to know Kevin Drage is in great health and is still razor sharp, do give him a call. Reminds me I owe him a call...
