A very good friend of mine, Paul A, who is fairly new to Historics, has the good fortune to have just acquired Brabham BT8 BRM V8 Chassis #5, the Team Rosebud car.

It appears to have had a thorough restoration and rebuild, but the colour is, to say the least, a very lively bright blue .... and with a pair of red "Hot Lips".

We (he) has a good history file with the car, and period black and white photographs show that it to have been a very light shade (pale blue is mentioned).

A good example is the Photograph in Doug Nye's excellent summary of Black Jack at  https://www.goodwood...k-jack-brabham/

My friend Paul, who is as fussy as the best of us, has asked me to post here and see if anyone has any clues or perhaps any period colour photographs?

There are couple of rear bodywork corrections to be done and at the same time he would like to take the opportunity to get the car back into the correct colour.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Ooops!

Perhaps this should be posted in the Historical Research section.

Could someone help move the post to where it belongs please?

Thanks

Maybe try Allen Kuhn.  He has an extensive collection of photos from Laguna Seca and Riverside.

P.S. Is there no correct colour paint underneath the current top coat?

Could it be that the current blue colour is correct for Team Rosebud?

Car is listed in Goodwood programme, Easter Monday 1964, Lavant Cup Race as "blue." Driver TBN.

Note car was disqualified at Goodwood.

A little mystified by all this problem with colour.  Car looked in excellent order - and in colour rendition - when being raced by Duncan Dayton? Does the new owner have a problem with that?

Doug, Me too. But I have a dim recollection of the car racing at Goodwood, Easter Monday 1964, Lavant Cup Race, with a light eggshell blue colour? Possibly an undercoat? RGDS RLT

Off topic, but in the last link in post #5, that's Pete Lovely in the red top talking to Peter Ryan.

There is a problem with memory,,things were not as we remember and sometimes cars are better finished than in period.

Plus ofcourse many racecars changed from meeting to meeting as well, both mechanically and asthetically.

As for colors, I own a classic speedway Supermodified and I had a chap in here recently who remembered the car from the period, he actually built an engine for it. And he was sure the shade of orange was wrong. As I know the period owner I know it is right as it is a Falcon GT color.

We do agree though the color of the engine is wrong, or at least the one he built.
