Hi There Everyone,

I am working on a research project on Dodge and DeSoto cars racing in Europe before WW2.

I have found there are a significant number that were used in rallies, mainly the Monte Carlo Rally and the Liège-Rome Liège Rally.

I am hoping that you guys might be able to suggest where I could look for photos from these events.  Perhaps there are some photographic collections in Belgium I could contact?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The specific ones I am after are as follows.

1930 Monte Carlo Rally
Al Berlesco - 2nd Outright - DeSoto K Model

1931 Liège-Rome Liège

Boccart/Vanhove – Car number 3 – DNF – DeSoto 3300cc

Nothomb/Fery – Car Number 14 – 10th Position – DeSoto 8 Cylinder?

Eggn/Rigaux – Car number 17 – DNF – DeSoto 3100cc

1932 Liège-Rome Liège

Van Hove/Rigaux – Car Number 6 – 8th Position – DeSoto 6 Cylinder

Nothomb/Nothomb – Car Number 17 – 7th Position – DeSoto 8 Cylinder

1933 Monte Carlo Rally

P.G Cristea - Car Number 42 - Dodge

G Duhoux - Car Numbert 82 - Dodge

1933 Liège-Rome Liège

Duhoux and Lays - No number - 4th Outright - Dodge

1934 Liège-Rome Liège

Nothomb/Creat - No Number - DeSoto

Many Thanks

Stewart

Although it's not the primary purpose of the collection, I have found some motor sport related pictures in the Belgian CEGESOMA archive.

Stewart, Duhoux/Lays had number 10 in 1933 and Nothomb/Creat had number 16 in 1934. In Jean-Paul Delsaux's "Marathon de la Route" there is an aerial view, probably taken from a roof, of the parc fermé in 1933 but the cars are hardly distinguishable due to the distance.

A friend sent me a phone photo from a book called A history of the Monte Carlo Rally by Michael Frostick showing a Chrysler Airflorw.

I have ordered a copy for AU$15.

Can't wait for it to arrive.

Will keep you updated on it's content.

Cheers

Stewart, If you are going through MC Rally pictures in books, I would like to know the sources, if they are credited. I'm looking for pictures of Luigi Chinetti in the 1935/36 editions. (Alfa 8C 2300 and Matford respectively. I am going to contact the Auto Club of Monaco to see what kind of collection they have.

Many thanks.

Hi Cabianca,

Unfortunately the book I have just got contains none of what you are looking for.

Have you had any luck with the auto club?

Many Thanks

Stewart
