75th Monaco Grand Prix
May 25 - 28 2017

Yes, this race is on as well this weekend, surprise, surprise. The perfect warm-up for the Indy 500 some of you would say. The ultimate race some others would say. Or simply another F1 race weekend. Fernando Alonso A certain Spanish driver is showing this race the finger skipping this one, which allows Jenson Button to experience his frustrations give his long awaited comeback! Of course the title battle between Mercedes and Ferrari will take the main stage, but Red Bull could have a better shot this weekend. And the fight for the points could be a close one. (And you are all thrilled to see Stroll on this track, don't deny it!)

The track

What can we expect from this weekend?

Kimi is a dad now......but if he wins?

Sadly rain looks unlikely, but if it rains, then a classic could always be in store

As usual the special things are more likely to happen on saturday

Nico Rosberg is at the track this weekend. Why not parking at Mirabeau again?

The favourites

Sebastian Vettel
1225915092-sebastian-vettel-monaco-pool-
Track record? Won in 2011.
How? With old cheese.
Points? 104
Form? Good
Target? Win and dive.

Lewis Hamilton
HamiltonMonacochampgne-300x168.jpg
Track record? Won in 2008 and 2016. A mixed bag.
How? Not in this weekends conditions.....
Points? 98
Form? Rising
Target? Win with a boat.

The Parmigiano menu

For the first time this year the teams were allowed to chose the cheese tyres on their own...Yeah, look what A***** chosed for his replacement. Tzzz Tzzz.

So, what happened last year?
After an stellar qualifying performance of Daniel Ricciardo on saturday, the sunday was affected by rain, which resulted into the first ever Monaco SC start *insert angry looking emoji here*. The race was quite exciting and delivered a few surprises, such as a Perez podium, a 5th place from Alonso (wait, who is that guy again?), a Verstappen crash and a amazing showacast of Palmers abilities (censored).

Championship leader, later world champion and now retiree (almost as many descriptions as nationalities) Nico Rosberg moved over during the race and finished just in 7th. His friend bitter rival team mate Lewis Hamilton eventually grab the win, thanks to a nicely executed strategy and a All-Time-classic.....

How did we got here?

A typical pre-Season...

A typical Friday on this forum...

A typical day in Totos office....

And this one, but "The one who shall not be named in this thread" is driving this week the fastest race of his live (I didnt mentioned this yet, right???)

Let's go!

Can't wait to see where Stroll finishes. And then the rest of the field, 50 laps later.

The weather is almost definitely going to be dry by the way all weekend.

Remember that practice is on Thursday, and F2 is on Friday (feature race) and the sprint race on Saturday. Formula Renault 2.0 is also at Monaco this weekend and the usual Porsche Supercup race.

Yay! I love Monaco.

I know every year it draws complaints, but I just love the challenge and difference of it. It's BECAUSE it's such a stupid place to try to race F1 cars around I find it so much fun. Plus it's just beautiful to look at. Every corner is iconic and the cars look amazing going round each section. The section into the tunnel then down the hill into then swimming pool section is my favourite.

I've gone for a Hamilton win after a stellar quali lap. Seb or Ricciardo to finish second.

I fear for Stroll here. If he doesn't bin it I think he could be Luca Badoer style off the pace.

The long wheelbase could hurt Mercedes here. I'm predicting a Ferrari win for Vettel. And hopefully Kimi can perform on one of his least favourite circuits.

A more suitable thread poll would be: who will determine the race winner by causing a safety car?

  • Lance Stroll
  • Marcus Ericsson
  • Jolyon Palmer

Mercedes have said they're a bit concerned about Monaco pace and Ferrari haven't been very good at Monaco for a while and their Spain s3 was a bit ordinary.  Maybe RB have a chance and the top 6 won't be as far clear as normal

Based on Melbourne and Sochi, I have a hunch Vettel will dominate the weekend. Pole, good start, straightforward win. I know Mercedes were strong at sector 3 in Barcelona, but I still think Vettel and Ferrari will get everything right this time around.

I also think from now on Ferrari will be more agressive in allowing Raikkonen different strategies which have the benefit of holding the Mercedes.

Here's a little artist impression of how F1's own Prancing Horse has lately tackled this annual exercise in disappointment.

Problem is Jenson isn't excited about seeing Jenson back.

After his crappy end to last year I was hoping he could come back, McLaren could get the car hooked up and he could at least have some fun and maybe get some points. But I just don't think he's feeling it.

Just how fast can the laptimes go?

Spain S3, Mercedes were over 1s faster than 2016, across a mere 28 seconds.

We could just have a competition," guess the crash location,"

My vote Jolyon and Marcus will both take each other out at Sainte Devote, (Jolyon's fault he turned left) -  while Lance will get too excited and crash at into the wall overdoing it at the Nouvelle Chicane.
