What are your opinions on the best Rally game for the PC?
I only have experience of two - Network Q RAC Rally and Colin McRae. Of the two, CMR is by far the better. Good graphics and excellent gameplay. The handling of the cars in Network Q is crap.
I see that the latest game out is Rally Championship. Can any tell me how good this is? Does it compare to CMR? My experience of Network Q also created by Europress puts me off this game.
Appreciate your thoughts.

Kiwi,
I have both CMR and Rally Championship. They are both good games. CMR is fun and offers a wider range of environments to drive on, such as, ice. But, Rally Championship offers a more challenging package. The races are longer and require a fine balance between going all out and preserving the car. Rally Championship has some bugs but they can be patched up. Despite this bugs, I think Rally Championship is a really good game. If you're a rally fan, I highly recommend Rally Championship.

I bought Network Q at a local electronics show a ways back. That has got to be the lamest game I have ever bought in my life!!! I knew something was up when the cars all started dropping out in front of me...

Throw away your fancy clothes
And while you're out there sittin' on a fence
So get off your ass and come down here
'Cause rock 'n' roll ain't no riddle man
To me it makes good, good sense"

I have to admit that although Rally championship has better graphics and much more options as well as cars, Colin McRae is more fun to drive. The cars are easier to slide and you can do a lot more "realistic" manouvers. RC is a great game, specially with a force feedback wheel but I don´t have as much fun as I do with CMR. I can´t wait for the second part of it.

Rally championship is more of a sim than CMR, with RC you only get F2 FWD (Front Wheel Drive) cars until you win the British Rally Championship.
RCs graphics are brillient, the only fault really is the pathetic collisions that see the cars grind to a halt instantly - not very realistic.
You have to realise that driving FWD cars is very different to the 4WD cars you are used to in many games and exhibit all the inherent FWD handling traits you'd expect such as terrible understeer and the need to use the hand brake a lot on tight bends! You have to make your lines more precise and steer more with the throttle to pick your apex.
FWD cars in CMR don't handle as FWD cars should, so to the uninitialted CMR seems more playable than RC, in reality CMR is less Simmy than RC and may appeal more if that's your bag.
Another thing with RC is there is miles of track OFF the designated courses so can can genuinely get lost!
Another Rally game on the PC of course is Sega Rally 2 which is right at the arcade/console end of the spectrum still enjoyable for a quick blast, the PC versions graphics are superior to the Dreamcast version but not as good as RC.
Sega Rally 2 costs just £20 (PC World)

I think you guys have pretty much summed it up. Sega Rally 2 is definated an arcade game. Colin McRae and RC are simulators with CMR probably being more fun, but RC being the more "sim" of the two.
I don't own either, but have been researching them both with the intention of buying one. Initially I was leaning towards CMR, but now I thinking about RC instead. After RC is patched, it's suppose to be MUCH better.
I think CMR2 is suppose to come out Q2 of this year. So if you can wait...
Does anyone know if you can patch either game (CMR or RC) so you can have the official WRC drivers (Makinen, Burns, Sainze, etc)?
