Winton-_Fo_S-2017s-1.jpg

The Festival of Speed is gathering entries at the moment, private practice is on for the Friday the 4th as well.

http://vhrr.com/wp/winton-fos/

It's a joint venture between Winton Motor raceway and the VHRR - interestingly, there doesn't appear to be a Meecams entry facility.

The feature event is a  50 km Group N race, though Groups J through to R look like they're being catered for as well as Historic FFs and Vees and the Victorian MG Racing Series.

It should be good - fingers crossed that they'll not be too much rain!!!

I think entries are closed now, so hopefully an entry list is not far away!

There's also a test and tune day on Thursday the 3rd!

Are race engines to be suppressed in any any way?

I see this as the advisory as far as noise is concerned:-

"40. ENGINE NOISE

Racing engines are NOT PERMITTED to be started before 8.00am or to be started or in operation after 6.30pm each day. "

Not the best photo in the world, but probably the only one showing James Pepper going all "Porridge at Longford on skinny tyres in the driving rain" option!

The Penrite man went on to win the Group M & O race - bravo sir!!! - As one by one the guys on fat tyres cried enough and trundled back into the pits, saturated and disconsolate!!

It's not like there was no sun all weekend, there was a (very) brief ray of sun for a moment!

A disgustingly small turnout of pre 60 cars, soon promoters won't bother to provide races for them and then listen to the competitors squeal. It is essential that pre 60 entrants start supporting events for their cars otherwise the only place for these cars will be in a museum and unsaleable.

From memory Sandown and PI are both 9am start and have been for a LONG time. Sandown is ofcourse understandable in a residential area but PI? Might scare the penguins,,,, that IF you could hear above them. Noisy little buggers!

Why is the green ( factory colours) Brabham BT11A  running such wide wheels if its logged as a group M car?

I would have thought a car with such history (Stillwell's winning Gold Star car of 1965) should be presented in its correct period colours ,rather then the owner painting it in the Formula one Brabham colours of the period ...with Brabham's named plastered along the flanks, giving the uninformed the opinion it's a Formula one car .

I am somewhat confused? The car in posts #5&6 is BT23-B-3. It was running in group O. It is not a BT11A

Re Brabham #1 in posts 5 and 6, it is BT23B-3 owned by Trevor Simpson since 2005.

Some background info here. I think it was previously driven in Switzerland. Never in the Tasman Series.

According to the ORC site Trevor Simpson's car is BT23B-2, originally owned by Charles Vögele in Switzerland and bought by Simpson in January 2010:

That can't have been that onerous, there were only about 10 M & O cars there.

Others say it is BT23B -2.

Which is correct.

What "Others say" may sound right, however it is important to actually check the facts!

Some years back, after an apology, and a written retraction, Graham Howard sent me a letter. He ended the letter with :-

"There are several lessons for me in that, and I hope I remember them."

BT23B-2.I'd say a typo re the chassis 3.

Refreshing to see a Brabham Climax in its period colours unlike a Bt11a painted up as a factory formula 1 car with Brabham's names on the panels .
