A simple Beta Test would have stopped this from happening, shame nobody thought about the end user in all this.  You'd think they'd know by now, F1 fans want one of 2 things. 1 The rosy past.... or 2. things to stay the same. :cat:

F1 has launched a dedicated live timing app ahead of the Russian Grand Prix, after listening to fan feedback on the redesigned live timing pages on the new version of the F1 app that launched pre-Singapore. The F1 app will be updated with improved live timing at a later date

Even though they created a mess, they deserve a big   for acknowledging it and finding a quick solution.

Created is a big word 😆 it's just a re-release of the old app. But kudos to them for the quick reaction and short term fix.
👍
Still a pretty unbelievable **** up though...

Good on them for the quick resolution, albeit in the short term.

Downloaded and deleted official F1 app. Only used it for live timing!

I have used the Live Timing every race and haven't experienced any changes during the last weeks? It was all working and looking the way it used to be.

What happened (or did not happen) there?

You'll have to re-download it, mate. This F1 live timing app is a temporary fix until they release an update within the main F1 app...

Seems like the "new" Timing App has a few cosmetic changes and it also feels smoother on my device, which is always welcome.

Have they said if there's any plans to integrate the official Fantasy F1 stuff into the app? It's not a problem on the scale of the live timing by any means, but it'd be nice to have it integrated on the app.

guys I was forced to update the app, first it wouldnt let me login, second I got no acess to live timing.  Any ideas?

If I login on the website it says I got no subscription, but on google play I have an active subscription.

--edit--

up and running again thanks guys, old app installed.

What a disaster.

Also I will complain but the problem is developers mindset, it will be engraved in their brain to not rollback the code, to them fixing it will be to try and make the new app more like the old, I have never ever seen a commercial developer agree to rollback code on customer feedback.

Anyone is playing with this app on iOS? I have a problem since the morning, the app doesn't login, the loading scroll just keep rolling. Anyone else has this problem as well?

I really should've posted this at the time. Link

--

F1 LIVE TIMING APP WILL NO LONGER BE SUPPORTED AFTER 10TH DECEMBER
From 10th December 2018, the F1 Live Timing app will no longer be supported. This means that we’ll no longer be updating the app and the information contained will not be up to date. This doesn’t affect the Formula 1 app.

We are working hard to make the features you want available inside the Formula 1 app for the start of the new season.

We’ll be back in touch nearer the start of the season to keep you updated.

--

Presumably, everything is going to be rolled into the Official F1 App, rather than having two separate apps.

I am curious about the YouTube stream. I suspect it's something they will keep, for free.

When did the YouTube timing stream begin? Is it a recent thing? I hadn't seen that on YouTube until this year's testing

Testing. It is the same timing wall used on the pitwall and in the media centre.

Was far from ideal though.... The app where you can swipe between views and change columns is way better. THat's the only reason to have a subscription. So if that's not back I'll cancel.

The iOS app was updated today...

Release notes say
  • Redesign of Live Timing based on fan feedback, including:
  • A new optimized live leader board that - in one screen - shows ALL drivers and MORE driver data
  • Improved driver tracker with split screen view of live leader board data or selected driver telemetry.

Lets see about that...

Hmm. After all this time they might deliver something sort of vaguely useful?

Unfortunately, there's no way to access historical data so no way to tell.

I could really do without having built-in ads to a paid application. FFS.

How about market share among those who watch F1 and are willing to pay for a timing app?

Statistics can say all kinds of crap...

I had been trying for over a month to try and get an answer on what format the live timing would be, both via social media, and email. Until today, I had been totally ignored. After the debacle last year, I wanted to make sure it was fixed before I renewed my subscription, seeing as it is all I use the app for.
I just received this:

Thank you for contacting the F1 Team and most of all thank you for your patience!

I do have good news, the Live Timing will indeed be the original one, the one our fans love.
Since we have learned from the past and listened to our fans, the format will be the original layout.

Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else?

Much appreciated,
Claudiu from F1 Team,

Here in the Netherlands TV was about 10 seconds behind on aggregate, but you can pause livetiming to synchronise.

The "redesign" :stoned: Looks just as cluttered and hectic as last year. An entire year and this is what they come up with

They haven't released a screenshot for the "sectors" screen - so one can hope. But I doubt it.

Looks like mockups rather than real images. For a start, that track doesn't look like Melbourne to me despite saying "AUS LIVE"... (It's obviously Silverstone)

Here's a clue guys - allow us to access previous season's data so we can see how it works in practice. Why does last year's data have to be erased from existence?

Also, in the image above the dark red driver near the edge of the screen is clearly exceeding track limits!

Also, this year tyres will be simply called Soft, Medium, Hard. There is still hope that these are simple mockups and the end product will be at least half-decent :)

The stand alone app that they released last year still works for old races, if you’re interested in watching, or listening (the BBC radio commentary is there too).
I had a look yesterday, and interestingly the drivers colours are updated for their new teams.

Claudiu from F1 Team,

Are they all fucking drunk or off their daily medication?! Looking at their terrible mock ups and previous art, I feel they 'learned fuck all from the past', and have no frigging clue about what 'our fans love'...

The incompetence goes deep here....

It's almost like they purposely want to screw their customers over again and again. I thought the backlash last year was clear enough, they even reverted back to the proper live timing because of it and now they try to force the exact same thing upon us AGAIN!? Do they really expect a different result this time? Those people really are a joke!

It's bizarre because F1 Customer Service have said "all of the great features from the old app will be included", and yet here we are.

I am a little confused because a lot of messages from F1 Customer Service have suggested the opposite, and yet here we are.

Wouldn't surprise me if that is simply a bit of PR talk. The new live timing probably has the same features as the old one (so they are not lying) but in the new shitty UI. I don't trust a word they're saying...

They are not supporting or have alternative version for iOS 9 and lower unfortunately. Thank goodness i coincidentally bought new iPAD at the end of the year as i just found it out.

PS By the way, why no demo timing in app still? Less than 24 hours left or it's not supposed to be?

The "Data Tracker" - image link, miles better than Live Timing - is only available for users with F1 TV Pro (e.g not available in the UK).

The home version of the pit wall is a good idea.  Now I just need a table to withstand the home version of a Toto table pound and a stool worthy of the Horner foot shake...
