BTW, one major headache is NOT being able to fine tune the delay. The old app had perfect plus/minus fine tuning, this app has a slider which displays the (wait for it) lap nr. It's impossible to sync it with your TV feed....

I've given up. There's a million and one things wrong with the UX. FOM don't care. They are the exclusive provider of live timing.

They keep trying to polish this turd while all they have/had to do was to take the old live timing app and update the graphics to fall in line with their TV graphics and everybody would be happy. Unfortunately they are way too arrogant to do that...

When replaying sessions, I haven't managed to work out how long there is a delay for before the session starts. With the old app it was more or less instant, this one just seems to sit there for an undocumented period of time (like 10 mins) so you have to guess how far to move the slider before the race starts.

Glad to see others think the same as me. No words for how horrible the live timing app is. And to think I paid for that  :|

I kept my old iPad with iOS 9 alive as long as I could because the old version was on there and it could not update to the newest. And it was miles better. But this year it was over. They shut it down. So now the only option is this trainwreck of an app

It seems like their entire range of digital offerings is being run by people who have absolutely no clue what they're doing

Well, we have a new update and the release notes say:

- View sector times in leaderboard view alongside driver tracker map

- Compare two drivers’ telemetry, gap time and sector times with head-to-head ‘Battle Mode’

- Removed flashing animation for gap and interval data updates

I can see the other changes but I don't see this "battle mode".

Unfortunately these changes do not tackle the fundamental problems with this App. It seems they're clueless as to what the important things are,

As I said earlier, they're polishing a turd and have no clue what fans actually want. These things are made by some computer programmers and graphic designers who most probably never even have watched a GP before, that's the real problem, it isn't made by someone who's a real fan!

Last weekend the ACO took down a live timing site which was made by a fan and much better than the official WEC one. Then another fan who happened to be quite handy with programming came up with an alternative he had developed within 48 hours which turned out to be 100 times better than the official one as well.

That was 1 single person who created a live timing application at home within 48 hours for free and it was much better than everything Liberty have come up with so far...It shouldn't be that difficult, if only they would hire the right people for the job.

Not sure what their direction is. I can only assume there is a project manager who is trying to brainstorm to new "features" every week to justify their enormous paycheck.

Back to basics, ffs.

Never mind.

Could anyone advise me:

I have the app on a Samsung galaxy A5 phone (android 6.0) but I was thinking of buying a tablet for the app.  Does anyone know how many features I am missing out on by just using the app on a phone and if it's worth getting the app on a tablet?

The app FAQ (here: https://f1tv.formula1.com/en/faq) seems to imply the only tablets that run the app are very recent Ipads?  (IOS 10+).  Is that true, what devices do people here use for the app?

Thanks

I only use the app for sector times. The bigger screen is useful, that's it.

I use the app on an iPhone 8 & an iPad Pro (2 years old) both with IOS 12. It works well on both although agree bigger screen is easier.
