Wanted to keep this simple to gauge the strength of fan opinion on this. It seems overwhelmingly negative to me but that could be me filtering out contradictory information.

Probably, to laugh or cry, or both, but I'll switch off when the FIA lowers the speed limit to 40mph and introduce bubble wrapped cars.

I dont know.  If Mercedes continue their domination and the cars are fugly as all hell, I'm gonna be much less motivated to tune-in, that's for sure.

Honestly, I'd probably still watch, I'd just be far less invested and interested.  Would turn into more of a casual thing until things got revamped for the better.

I won't stop, but the cars are going to look horrendous.

I love playing F1 simulation games. These cars usually have to perfectly mirror the actual cars. If that means they have the halo, the onboard cockpit view will be horrendous and I'll no longer purchase those f1 affiliated products.

Good point, even not driving in cockpit view you'd still see a horrendous looking flip flop on top of the car, so for that reason I'd literally not buy anymore F1 games.

Course I'll keep watching.  Cars change every year.  I still think it's going to get nixed after extensive testing in pre-season.

I imagine after a few races it will just become 'normal'.  I won't like them, but I didn't like the appendage noses or the the narrow rear wings.  I just grew used to the ugliness.

I didn't even think about that.

Codemasters did such a good job with F1 2016, I feel bad for them that their 2018 game is about to be ruined by the FIA.

All here will still be watching it, but the toddler safety rail will bring about much mockery and sneering, so nobody is ever going to admit to watching it in the real world, and similarly nobody new is going to be tempted. F1's Ratner moment. There is no escaping the thing.

I don't think they could do anything to make me not want to watch the race at Spa. :p

Everything else is negotiable, and these things add up to me being less likely to prefer F1 over other activities should the choice come up (as indeed they did last weekend when the WEC was racing at the Nürburgring).

No, I'm hopeful it'll go the way of the qualifying mess last year. Even so I don't stop watching a sport because it changes. I keep watching so long as it entertains me, if F1 ever stops entertaining me, I'll stop watching. I doubt that halo will rob me of the thrill F1 gives me, but I guess I'll find out next year.

Quick get on the Codemasters forums and ask them to implement a non halo graphical option. It wouldn't be hard for them to implement so they might just do that if you ask politely...

Most of y'all be back, I am pretty sure of it.  It won't look great, but if we can get used to stepped noses (that Kubica test once again reminded me how horrible that looked!) and penis noses, then the halo should be bearable, too.  I also think it'll just be a stop-gap solution until something "better" comes along.  There could also be other improvements.  I felt that using two vertical bars off to the "corners" rather than one central bar would look better (like a real roll cage as seen in other types of racing).

No and I neither hate or love the Halo. I am in fact relatively indifferent to the Halo, other than if that is something that improves the safety then so be it.

I hate shark fins but still watch, halo is even far worse, I don't accept why it's being introduced especially when the vast vast vast majority of the grid do not want it. I'd you want, fine put it on but do not make it mandatory,

Yeah I'll stop, but it's not because of the Halo.

The Halo is really just the last straw and truthfully my interest has been declining year after year. I find the sport has

become too pale compared to my earlier days of watching. The drivers have become PR Robots the track have become

so safe that more overtaking is now done off track than on and I am sick to death of the teenage hero worship internet posters

dole out on forums like this.

Of all the silly rules that emasculated F1 over the last 20 years, I rate the HALO as a pretty benign one. But it certainly won't contribute to reignite my interest.

This year, for the first time in many, many years I did not attend an F1 race. I still watch on TV, though. I've been repeatedly kicked in the groin by F1 over the last several years and the halo will be the end of my addiction.

I feel very odd about that, but the affair is (will be) over.

I've been fed up a lot of BS in the past decade or so and let it go, trying to get used to it.

Gave up going buying tickets already.

This is the tipping point.

I'm out the minute it hits track.  I'll go build the 60's, 70's and 80's plastic kits I have with the time made free and that will be my fix.

EDIT: 40 years watching.

We will see, my worry is come race day for the first Grand Prix, with all the cars lined up on the grid, the sheer ridiculousness of 20 cars each with the halo mounted, will be too much to bear, and I'll end up switching the channel.

But whatever happens next year, I will be stopping come 2019, I am not shelling out £100s of pounds for Sky's subpar coverage.

My interest in F1 has dropped off in recent years anyway. Whereas in years gone by, I'd watch every race religiously and plan my weekends around F1, now I only watch a few races. The Halo certainly doesn't help reverse that trend, but I'm hopeful that by next year they'll all have seen sense and it won't be on the cars anyway.

So, in short, the second option.

I'm at the point where i want to stop. Can I say I will not tune in on a quiet Sunday in future? No I can't.

Halo in isolation is not what has caused this. Halo is though the cause of me finally having had enough when taken with all the other utter rubbish we have to put up with now that makes the sport so far removed from what it was only 10-15 years ago.

Then there's pay TV in 2019 to factor in.

What actually exciting about the future of F1 anymore? Verstappen cannot carry the whole sport!

The poll forced people to say they are going to stop watching because of halo - there's no middle ground for people like me who see it as merely another thing - or the final straw.

The posts don't reflect many people saying 'halo on its own is going to make me turn off' as the poll implies.

I've already stopped watching because of Honda, so Halo is the least of F1's issues preventing its relevance to the words "sport" or "entertainment".

Watching my fav sport is expensive enough as it is, I struggle every year to justify the extortionate amount sky charge, if the halo bullshit goes through then its adios from me, no more expensive bills for **** I don't watch in order to watch F1, simples, thank god for MotoGP

BS poll questions - skewed as ever.

And the angst and hand-wringing over the halo is ridiculous but expected, given the fragile emotions of many F1 fans as well as the penchant for hyperbole and brinkmanship. I just roll with it and hope for some fast cars and decent entertainment. The freaking halo isn't going to change anything apart from the looks - which have been off since about 1994.

Many are probably not old enough to remember 1998 - narrow cars with grooves - now that was worth the hand-wringing.

Well I started following Motorsports when James Hunt was driving and Barry Sheene  was riding, now I think I slept

through the 90s. But I figure maybe some slightly older fans have just about had enough "given our fragile emotions"  :stoned:

Probably. I have to rely on Nigerian friends to watch it anyway and it will be less motivation to "tune" in. I'll still follow the results and the race threads to keep up, but finding the correct Nigerian, making sure it is stable won't be something I'll be pouring much effort into. Shame, latter half of '87 on, it's been on my viewing list through relocations, changes and ultimately inter-continental move.

No fragile emotions here and I've following F1 since well before 1998. If Robert Kubica is racing next year, I will watch the first race only.

I have Indycar to get my open wheel racing fix.

Just when they get the cars looking right, they do this.

Vettel does one lap with the shield and thinks "I'll just say it doesn't work, and things will be back to normal".  Ahrghh.

Most likely, I'll just end-up switching the channel and watching more IndyCar...
