Leo Kinnunen, the first ever Finnish F1 driver, Daytona 24 h winner, teammate to Pedro Rodriguez, friend to Ronnie Petterson, and Jochen Rindt has passed away. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

 

Those who with Valtteri Bottas sponsors recognise name Wihuri, Leo was driving for AAW team (Antti Aarnio-Wihuri) in sports cars and here are some pictures from those days.

 

Valtteri has told that he was one of his original driving idols.

Albeit from across a big pond, as a young Can-Am fanatic I followed Leo's epic Interseries battles against Willi Kauhsen. They were the Euro version of Bruce & Denny, though in German cars.

Small fact, Leo was last man who drove F1 with open-face helmet. I can't find actual quote from him but it was something like 'I don't know how they dare to use closed helmet, it's so heavy that you hurt your neck if you crash."
