Hi everibody,

was the colour of this car really black at the US Gp in 1979?

Many thanks!

Ciao Vale.

They were very dark blue, with the car of Lammers resplendent in its fiery Samson livery and that of de Angelis in plain blue.

Staroup jeans livery ?

Checking on racingsportscars, it looks like the de Angelis car had no sponsors at both US GPs.

From the USA west GP in Long Beach there is just one bad photo. It looks like it was the Staroup jeans livery without the sponsor decals.

USA East is for sure dark blue:

Same here.
I haven't found good photos.

But I see that a 1/43 model by Spark is black and also here: http://www.racingspo...1979-10-07.html they say black.

I suppose is a lack of sponsor for that gp but I've many doubts.

Ciao Vale.

My browser craps out if I try to properly link anything in these forums (insert angry face), but here's a good photo labeled as Watkins Glen:

The model brands often fail so much in proper historic research. A shame actually given their resources.

Lack of sponsor? How about the De Angelis family?

Yes, but it was the last gp for De Angelis and soon Shadow would have concluded its adventure in Formula 1, so I think that Elio wouldn't have been interested in racing in that team for the next year.

That's why I'm not sure of the livery of that gp.

Ciao Vale.

(my mistake :1/43 model Spark is correct because is the car used in International Trophy in 1978, drived by Regazzoni.)

I saw the DN9 liveried as the Samson/Lammers car at the recent Vintage Festival here in Canada at Mosport, back in June of this year, in the photos I have the car is definitely dark blue. mind this is the restored machine, so cannot attest to the correct shade.

Staroup jeans livery ?

After a bit of research it looks like this remark of mine was quite premature.

It seems that Staroup only sponsored Elio's car at the Brazilian GP that year.

This pic out of MotorSport, of Elio's crashed DN9 shows some  livery on the sidepod, though not legible.
