Does anyone know why the organizers of the Brazilian and Spanish grand prix saw fit to present the teams/drivers with those horible steering wheel trophies. I have allways hated them. Is there a European crap trophy mountain they are trying to get rid of somewhere?

The only European crap trophy room I know about is Ron's trophy room in Woking, soon to be transferred to the Death Star.

Personaly I preferred JV's more accurately sized trophie to either of the other two drivers, but when you probibaly have many real versions of the steering wheel (with free car included);) it probibaly not that special and you would preferr a bigger one.

It seems F1 Tropies have become ever more garish, gaudy and conformist over the years. I'd much rather see something folksy and reflective on whatever nation's grand prix it is, rather than something bought at the ACME Trophy Shoppe.

I think my favorite trophies are the Japanese ones and the one that is awarded to the winner of the drivers championship!!

Yep, they are revolting but a lot better than the "Bernies" being given out by a Mr. Ecclestone.

The real question is what do they do with them all. I mean, FORIX says MS has 89 podiums now. Plus 3 WDCs. That trophy he got last year was bigger than he is. Don't forget that spiffy "Bernie Award" too.

This is the Ferrari wallpaper with the 2000 trophies. Except for the giant Marlboro add, none of them seem so bad as the steering wheel thingies.

I think the Qantas Australian GP gives out the nicest looking trophies.

Teck: yeah they are quite nice. Maybe they will soon start to give the drivers laurels as well as silver steering wheels to make them look even more stupid.

Who's steering wheel was it modelled on? There seemed to be a lot of randomly placed buttons!

The drivers do not get to keep the trophies they win (the team gets them), but they are allowed to make replicas (if they want)

Yeap, only the McLaren drivers. All the McLaren, well not all, because there isn't actually enough room, so all the nice ones are put on display in a cabinet, although the latest one is always left out for anyone to go and see it much closer.

It is mighty impressive. The drivers normally get replicas made btw.

If you ever get a chance to see it, the Constructors Championship Trophy is quite awesome and has 40 or 50 of the last team logos on it. Real piece of art

Have to agree, their are few trophies worse than the Marlboro Steering wheels.

This is quite a good article:- http://www.mclaren.c...s/trophies.html

I like the steering wheel trophies. They are fun looking.

I know the Canadian Grand Prix trophy is cut into the shape of a mapleleaf, and it is cool untill you realise it is more an Air Canada thing, then a Canadian thing. The Monaco trophy DC won is sweet. It was so big, he brought it on Lettermen.

I think the worst throphies are the plates.

They should make one like this:

And then print every winner´s name on it for posterity.;)

I think they should give trophies shaped like winner's face, so if DC win we would get a good laugh ;)

I think it's Marlboro design. Both Gp's of Brasil and Spain were sponsored by that cigarette brand, and the throphy has a big Malboro logo in the middle.

Is that so? The sponsor chooses the design? I remember one particular race sponsored by Sega the winner (Senna? Prost?) received a Sonic the Hedgehog-shaped Trophy. Funny thing.

The Marlboro designed trophy is definitely not attractive. I thought that last year when I saw it. It looks heavy too. I wonder how much it weighs.

The Melbourne trophy is nice, but every time I see it I want to use it as a saucer for going down a hill in the snow. Maybe spray some WD40 on the bottom to make it go extra fast :p

The Austria one is also attractive, but I don't think it's dishwasher safe ;)

I wonder what the wives think of their hubbies having some many replicas in the house collecting dust. I wouldn't want to be the person in charge of polishing them, especially for Ferrari or the Macs. The cleaning would never end.

The Indy 500 trophy is pretty nice, conceptually similar to the Stanley Cup.
