It's here! Race day in Singapore so expect shots of very sweaty drivers observing afterwards how their in car drinks bottle was like sipping hot tea. Also possibly expect what seems to be a developing trend of Mercedes suddenly looking like fish out of water and flopping about helplessly. What is UP with that?

More useful things to watch out for will now follow:

When is it on?

What is the start grid?

What tyres does everyone have?

I still resent having to devote braincells to this one but that's just me so here is what everyone is bringing to the party today:

Albert Fabrega ES‏ @AlbertFabrega  20m20 minutes ago
Pocas diferencias en neumáticos para carrera y poco significativas si va a ser a una parada. A partir d P10 saldrán con nuevos.

(Or,  'Not many difference, not much significance if it's a one stop. Drivers outside the top ten will be on new tyres')

What about the weather?

Ah yes, the traditional aspect of F1 that makes it so especially appealing to the British because it gives us epic clearance to discuss the weather endlessly. When it rains in Singapore it doesn't mess around, so the local forecast is worth keeping an eye on although now I think about it, I don't recall many washouts. The rain seems to clear by the evening but have fun watching the skies, I know I will be:

It's brewed, and now it's pouring down

And so on.

Who is going to win?

You never know! But probably Vettel thanks to this strong performance yesterday

It was going to take something special to beat the Red Bulls, and Sebastian Vettel did just that. His #SingaporeGP pole lap in full 2b07.png

Other things to watch out for in the race.

  • The camerman spots a lizard
  • Crofty makes an awkward joke about Raffles or Singapore Slings
  • The cameraman zooms in on a celeb and you need to read the caption to know who it is
  • Someone hits the wall
  • Booing the podium

Rain is easing off for the start of the Porsche race. It's supposed to hang around for a good few hours though.

So merc could potentially go US-S-SS if necesarry (SC or sumpin'), otherwise a straight 1 stopper with a long soft stint.

Ferrari and Redbull have a new soft set available, the "used" ones only have one installation lap on them.

In any case, it's probably going to be a one stop race, from US to SS.

That photo is amazing and looks more like the start of a film set in the future, like a message is going to appear on the screen in futuristic font telling us that humanity fought the aliens ...and lost.

Green track helps particularly Red Bull and McLaren, somewhat Ferrari and definitely not Mercedes.

I think US-S-SS will be faster on a green track as long as you don't have traffic.

It is so hot that it will take less than one hour to dry up.

nothing to worry imho.

It always is. I still can't believe how rarely it rains these days. As if we were on rFactor on scripted dry weather.

These cams should give a good indication of how dry or wet the roads are currently around the track.

Nothing to worry about. It will be a dry race. Processional and boring.

Still damp, but drying, I'd say.

The radar might indicate that some more rain might come down from the east. http://www.weather.g...rain-area-240km

No point hoping for rain IMO, the chance of green flag wet tyre running is way smaller than even normal

I hope so too, but wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. They (rightly) see this as their only chance to win a race this year on outright pace. Plus they have nothing to lose.

Best case scenario would be a good start by Vettel, and Räikkönen occupying Ricciardo's attention.

Still, even if they can't get ahead of - or barge through - Vettel at the start, with a 2v1 race strategy Red Bull is probably still the favourite to win.

He heard different things this season. Mercedes was quite good most of the track on Friday as the track was green, Ferrari needs more grip on the track. So it definitely should sweet Mercedes more than Ferrari.

Will we see a proper Singapore train from the top 6 (or even top 10) for the first 15 laps as the leader might control the pace. This would keep the field together and makes an undercut move very risky.

Unfortunately seb's going to kill this one. He could have a 5 second gap to 2nd place by the time they start the third lap. His opening lap pace is better than anyone.

IF there's some rain… some of those long shots are good bets!  Got Alonso at 500/1 yesterday after quali.  Bottas 80/1 would be worth a euro or two.

It depends on whether Ferrari improved due to better setup or due to the track rubbering in.

It'll be interesting to see how the Mercedes behaves in dirty air. They've usually been weak in this specific area.

They cannot race in the wet in Singapore due to reflected lights. They said that some years ago, but it's similar to Quatar in MotoGP after all.

So we have to hope it stops raining soon.

Here's an idea for you Romain: why don't you just sit it out while the men prove it's possible to race on a wet/damp track without crashing?

I don't think the bashing is needed. Most experienced drivers got beaten and not everyone can be an all time great. It's better to focus on the race, especially since there will be interesting battles at the front and midfield.

It won't be up to him, will it? It'll be Charlie Whiting, and I doubt he will sanction a wet race under the lights.

If so, he probably won't win. Tyre degradation will be a critical factor for the outcome of the race.

I'm definitely hoping for rain. Or cattle on track. Or aliens. Or something, anything, to stop it becoming the usual boring procession that it always is.

that's nothing new, he complains about everything at every track, he is always complaining on the track conditions, the guy just never shuts up blaming everything around him for his predicament. He needs a fast ticket out of F1 if he can't deal with the race conditions

There was a time when drivers would spend time figuring out how they could race in bad conditions, rather than how they couldn't.
