We watched our 94 F1 Year in Review tape a few nights ago....it was truly a terrible weekend. There were so many tragic incidents that weekend.

He's in a better place right now, racing on God's racetrack against Senna, Nuvolari, Ascari, Fangio, Clark, G. Villeneuve et al.

Rest in peace. I hope it comes as some kind of comfort to his family that Roland had a lot of fans who still remember him...

Ratzenberger's dead was very tragic. It will always be overshadowed for me by Ayrton Senna's dead. I'm not sure if this is as bad as some people might perceive it (each tragic loss if life is equally bad), but that's just how I think of it.
That does not make his dead and the loss for his family less tragic and painfull, and my sympathy are with those left behind. :(

It just strikes me that Senna's memory is so easily triggered, while Roland is perhaps more 'one of these things', and I know I'm guilty of that perception as well.

Very sad. I think that this one is the sadest dead in F1... A forgotten dead... His body was given to his family five days after his dead, and his funeral was a very sad one... nobody gave importance of his dead... This was one of the FIA's biggest mistake in history... Very sad....

I am glad to see that he has not been forgotten. I am sorry we never got to see his talent in this sport.

Senna had an Austrian flag in his driver suit which he would have waved at the end of the race to honor Roland.

I fully agree - its a shame that other events that weekend seem to have made Roland's loss almost forgotten, and its nice that people are remembering him on this board.

Rest in peace, Roland - and a word of remembrance to some of the other less well-remembered tragic figures in F1 history - John Taylor, Gerhard Mitter and Helmuth Koinigg, who will never be forgotten as long as F1 is folllowed.

I have always thought the fact that Senna was carrying an Austrian flag in his car that weekend one of the saddest ironies I have ever heard. Too bad that Roland never got a real chance to show off his abilities at the highest echelon...

Dreadful weekend.Roland,Ayrton and very nearly Rubens.
I will always be haunted by the image of Roland's helmet
slouched over the side of his car.
Rest in peace.
