So Gasly took Kvyats seat and probably at the time didn’t expect they’d end up as team mates quite so soon... will this fire up Kvyat to summon up some pace and beat the hell out of Gasly to show STR and Redbull that they made a mistake? Or will he continue to falter and fall apart?

Interesting to see if Gasly keeps the side of the garage/mechanics he inherited from Kvyat, and Daniil gets Sainz’s crew... or if Kvyat will go back to his old crew and Gasly swap over to use Sainz side.

Will be interesting.  :p

I don't get the impression Gasly is quite up to speed yet, so this should give Kvyat a chance to get ahead at least initially. But Kvyat's record of keeping his nose clean is not very good.

Super Formula is a means to an end, a step on the ladder. For any single seater/open wheel race driver F1 is the top of the ladder. There is no way Gasly would give up F1 to tread water in Super Formula for a week while someone else gets his drive.

Also the next driver on the Red Bull ladder is who Niko Kari or Dan Ticktum ? Certainly nobody else is F1 qualified or ready. There are of course other talented drivers on the ladder, Norris and Giovinazzi spring to mind, but they are outside the Red Bull "family."

Gasly will drive for the rest of the season, and almost certainly Kvyat and Gasly will stay for 2018.

Personally if Gasly starts beating Kvyat I'd look at making him the team leader in 2018, shake Kvyat's hand and say "thank you very much" then sign Norris from McLaren, but that's just me.

The other possibility of course is that Toro Rosso will use these few races as a shoot out between the two and then bring in a Honda nominee to replace the loser - but I hope not.

My prediction for the rest of 2017 season: Gasly will score 10-14 points, Kvyat 0. Buemi-Gasly for 2018.

Both won’t score any points. The car has gone pretty backwards, despite not having a year old engine like last year.
