I'm assuming Max and RB won't give a hoot about Bottas today and so even if Bottas pits early, they'll just ignore him.

I fully expect Valtteri to pit first, probably into traffic. Then Max will box while Vowles looks at the pretty orange shirts in the stands. Lewis loses 1s a lap on the next 10 laps but because he says the tyres feel okay, he's left out. When he finally pits, he's 15s back. Lewis will get the gap down to almost nothing, then a SC which brings both in. Lewis is then asleep at the restart and Max wins by 5s.

I expect a Monaco scenario where the leader drives exceptionally slow to bunch up the pack.

Provided the top 4 get away as they start and there's no bowling match into Tarzan Max should keep the pace low enough to keep Gasly close to the Merc cars.

Yes, I think the first stint will go one of two ways (assuming Max holds the lead after lap 1): Max will either run away out front to try to neutralise any possible use of Bottas; or he will keep the pace right down to prevent Mercedes from finding a space for Hamilton and/or Bottas. Either way, it could set up a fascinating race - assuming lap 1 delivers no surprises, of course...

Last time Max and Lewis were on the front row together was Silverstone.

And Perez started from the pitlane.

On that subject, what's the record for the most pitlane starts in one season? This is Checo's fourth this season? Bahrain, Silverstone, Spa and now today.

For me the Red Bull is glued to the track. While Mercedes is still hurt by the regulations. Most of the time it is also in specific corners where a lot of time is lost.

I don’t think the RedBull is glued to the track better than the Mercedes. But I also feel that Max is closer to the limit than any other driver out there. The Mercedes still has the more reliable rear but not as good as the 2020 car had. Which is more difficult for their drivers as years of being used to a very solid rear now it is a bit more risky.

I cant imagine Lewis/Mercedes will try anything silly. Not this close after Silverstone and Hungary and right in the lions den.

Unless Max is slow off the line I can see Lewis trying his luck through strategy instead.

The penalty is 10 seconds, there still is a lot of reason to go for a very marginal move IF you're on the inside.

I agree. The penalty really isn't a decentive for having a go and punting someone off the track.

In case of an early SC, is it feasible to switch to hards and not stop any more?

yes if you want no grip at the end but then there could be more than one so its always a gamble

Well, all things must pass. This is the second time a thread I started passed the 100 pages. More importantly: the race is happening and in my opinion it is already such a success that it is going to be around very long. I was so wrong in 2017 about the chances of a GP happening and also about how the track would be for Formula 1 car. The best 'new' track since Istanbul, IMHO.

Penalties are judged on the merits of the incident.
