So, this is it. THIS IS IT!  Even though it's not how we were hoping for Lewis to clinch the title, but that was out of his hands today. I remember very well when Lewis got his first WDC. I was rooting for Massa that day, or should I say Ferrari? Deep inside, I knew as early as 2007 that he was above the rest of the grid, but it took me until 2009 to admit that to myself and come out as a Lewis supporter. My deep hatred for McLaren was in the way and sure enough, the latter stages of his McLaren career didn't improve my opinion on the Woking based team. But I digress.

At times it looked like he would never win another WDC and I was sceptical about his move to Mercedes at first. At times I would ask myself if luck would ever come his way again to make him clinch another WDC. Then 2014 came and from then on, records have been tumbling. Who would have though that at the end of 2012? I know I didn't.

And now it's done, after one of his strongest seasons with a car that was difficult to tame at times he has outclassed all of the WDC contenders. Completely outclassed them. What a great day to be a Hamilton-fan. No matter what the future brings, he's already one of the all-time greats. And rightly so.

Well done to Lewis!

He's been a real class above Vettel this year. Entirely deserved.

Robbed of winning on one of the best podiums of the year. But its a championship nevertheless

I wonder if Liberty will bring him in front of the fans somehow.

Four and there'll be many more!

Won it by default after Rosberg's retirement. Of course not - a completely deserved fourth title. A swing of 30 points and he could already be a seven-time winner.

Well done to him. It may not be his last either.

Shame he probably won’t take the No.1 next year though.

Winning your 4th WDC by having an epic battle with Fernando, another great. Made up for the beginning of the race.

Depends on how you look at it. You could look at that, despite Vettel's dirty driving, he still couldn't delay the title fight. Seems like a proper finish to me.

yeah congratulations to lewis.

shame his race went down hill after turn one.

I think they should have told him he'd have to pit again a lot sooner than they did, because once they did he started to overtake.

before then it seemed like he was looking after his tyres,so he lost far too much time.

and Alonso put up a good fight near the end,but he pulled off a good overtake eventually.

I think ves would have won the race even if lewis had of got up into second after turn one.

but well deserved championship.but I'm sure he'll wanna get a few more wins before the end of the season.

or maybe he wont care anymore?

I’ve got a sneaky suspicion he may not be able to resist doing a Rosberg and quitting in the off season. He’ll try and make it stylish or whatever but I don’t think the halo clad cars of next years are so exciting for him.

Well done by Lewis, as always it’s a thoroughly deserved championship. He hasn’t made any mistakes since the break, and where Ferrari and Vettel faltered, he has not. Hopefully 2018 will produce a championship that goes to the wire.

There is next to no chance of this happening. Rosberg is a different animal with different ambitions. Hamilton like Vettel and Alonso are here to accumulate titles and records. That's why they're Tier 1.

Congratulations, cemented his place as one of the greatest drivers of all time!!

This year the Ferrari has been on par with Merc, but the Merc/Lewis combo have been on another level, especially since the summer break.

No, nope, never, down with the monarchy (except Hamilton would accept it, the forelock tugging is strong in Britain)

Well done to Lewis. It was a bit of a formality after Vettel had ballsed up the first turns, but it did give us a fun race. Loved the fight Vs Alonso. Let's hope to see that for P1 next season.

Oh- and so happy it was decided here rather than the utterly soulless AD track.

Congratulations. We could be here all day debating which of him, Seb, Max, Fernando is the best in the grid but there's little doubt he drove great this year, and definitely for this year outdrove and was more calm and collected than Seb who he was fighting against. Also you don't win 4 titles without being a supremely talented driver - this guy has been one of the benchmarks of the grid for a whole decade now and absolutely deserves this kind of generational recognition.

Amazing season from Hamilton. Had 2 races where he struggled, but otherwise pretty much flawless. One of his best seasons, and a superb way to take his fourth title (and also become pole record holder).

Big congrats to Merc too who have provided him with an amazing car.
