The next race at Abu Dhabi will be the last race without the HALO on the car.
I like F1 but I think next year it will be a lot less because of the HALO.
We have had some ugly cars in the past but this thing,I hate it.

Luckily FOM came up with the perfect solution for your problem, they will change the name of the Halo so there will be a lot of races in the future without the Halo!

I'm pretty much indifferent to this whole thing. It's not the best solution and not very pleasant looking but it won't make much of a difference to my enjoyment of F1 next year. We've suffered through so many aesthetic failures in recent history that I'm not very bothered anymore.

I'm happy to eat crow on this, but I'd be surprised if there are more than 2 races with the HALO. Australia will be a shitstorm, but the FIA will double down for the next round, only to back peddle under pressure from Liberty and the fans thereafter.

If the above sounds familiar, it's because it's based on the events surrounding the obviously stupid qualifying system they implemented last year.

I think everybody will discover It's actually really dangerous to block your line of sight straight in front of you. People will crash because of it, people will not be able to see the start lights, stuff like that. They will complain till It's removed.

Teams are building their cars aero with the HALO in mind.

 

It will not just be 'taken off' because of a fan backlash.

 

Only if something nasty happens will they really have to have a re-think.

I hope so but the problem is that it's going to be permanently mounted to the chassis and with the car designed around it, so taking it off during the season will be pretty difficult I guess.

Like all the weird contraptions and aero gear F1 has attached to the cars over the years, I'll end up getting used to it and then forget its there. Until it gets replaced with something better and then you look back and think how we ever adjusted.

This is completely different. I can get over visual abnormalities borne out of poorly-written regulations.

At least stepped noses and T-Wings have a purpose we can all get behind = laptime.

The Halo is against the very essence of Formula 1.

It makes the cars look like they are from a different category of humpty dumpty boring cotton wool racing altogether. Like some sick spin off.

They will make the cars way slower - I don't even want to know what the drag penalty is!

For what? The illusion of safety? What an absolute disgrace.

How come you are so pessimistic of the chances now? IIRC you were quite certain of your wish being fulfilled even when the teams showed little interest on actually seeing this through, and seeing how the FIA laid down the law to put a stop to that, what's changed?

 

Now of all the times is not one to despair the possible hardships – the FIA has made clear they will have their way even if the least of fixes is to install personal starting lights for all the drivers on the grid.

It’s the end of open cockpit F1, a tradition that stretches back to the very beginning of motorsports. I find it very sad.

If any of the current drivers feel F1 is too dangerous I would lose no respect for any of them to step away. But let’s not pretend that this is like attempts to improve safety in Jackie Stewart’s day when F1 really was dangerous. I’d rather get in an F1 car than cycle to work in London.

I honestly feel that rather than demand the end of open cockpit racing it would have been better for those who don’t want to be involved to step away and do racing they are comfortable with. I’m sure there would be no shortage of candidates to take their places.
