You know the rules by now, I'll kick off:

Panoz Abruzzi

panoz_abruzzi.jpg

Any Daytona Prototype (except the final Corvette one)

R40ilLw5.jpg

TJ-ROC

Can-Am Shadow

As well as the most beautiful, sportcar racing also brings us the least beautiful. I haven't even had to insert a Deltawang in here yet so rich is the pickings.

The correct answer to all of this is already in the first post, the Abruzzi and the gen 1/2 DPs. Everything else is varying degrees less offensive.

I forgot to add how **** those liveries are, too.

But it has these great tracts of land!

Actually, I rather like the 2J for the aggressive cleverness of the vacuum generator and underbody sealing.  Jim Hall is one of my racecar design heroes.

Don't get me wrong, I admire the innovation and the effectiveness. It's just that the back end looks like it was prototyped by a 5 year old using lego bricks. :)

I think it actually looks pretty good in this picture, but other angles aren't so flattering.

Bugatti won the 1937 Le Mans with their Type 57G:

A rather significant improvement over - but not entirely dissimilar to - their earlier Type 32:

These were mainly conversion from open-wheel F5000 cars with some new bodywork added to cover the wheels. Most of them i don't find particularly ugly, they looked better in their original guise that's true but even converted like this they look better than some of the purpose designed sports prototypes.

But there was this one butt-ugly F5000-to-sportscar conversion, i've seen a photo of it but can't seem to find it anymore. If i do i'll post it. :)

You’re probably thinking of the Wagner-BMW. Can’t find a good pic either. Very hideous.

Maybe I’m crazy but I remember the Intrepid getting a few poles in ‘91? Fun fact- the nose is basically identical to the R&S MKIII.

Rest assured that I was not. The ungainliness of this car might not be immediately obvious, but look at the front, where the lines above the Wheel arches dip suddenly, as if the front of another car had been grafted in a hurry. Or look at the rear where the car, missing the integrated wing found on the road-going version, looks like it is sporting fins worthy of a 1950s Cadillac. I admit there's visually a brute force to the overall package, but closer inspection shows how uneasy on the eyes some of the details are.

But everything is a matter of opinion, and your mileage may vary. :)

No, not that one (although that's hideous too). This was an older F5000 car, something early 70-s with those 60's style open noses due to radiator being placed in there, painted grayish, with a huge ass rear wing bolted onto it and just some silly looking fenders over the top of the wheels that would not look out of place on a Model T Ford. The whole thing looked like something cobbled together in a spare afternoon.

Might be South American origin, not sure.

EDIT: Found it!
