A quite incredible feat; which will surely never be repeated? And with for the same manufacturers; Porsche. Sadly, I've seen very little written or spoken about this anniversary. He's still the last British driver to win the Monte, yet you'd never know, as I don't think i've heard any of the current WRC commentators even mention it. I suspect they have never heard of him. 

 

Anyway, hats off to him!!

And I just read somewhere he is the only driver to have driven every type of 917... and live to tell about it!  Especially the very first one, which several Porsche factory drivers refused to drive!!

Irrespective, I have always thought Elford deserved much, much more recognition and have often wondered how he might have have performed had he been given a proper (full-time) ride with a decent Grand Prix team.

Vic had some Formula 2 outings in the early 70s with Chevron. But would I be right in thinking that he only drove in F2 after having already competed in top-line rallying, WEC, rallycross, Grands Prix, Trans Am, Can Am and NASCAR? That's pretty unusual.

(I wonder what he had against drag racing?)

An excellent few minutes of him telling us his memories of how things happened, but such a shame that it was thought necessary to add musak - too often done these days and no more welcome than it ever was.
