Hi Everyone,

I am trying to research a bunch of things that happened in the Newcastle Auto club in the early 1930s for a book I am hoping to write.

I have lots of good data in terms of race results etc. But I really need some photos to go with the info.

I have had no luck finding any collections of photos from the Newcastle Auto Club.

Can Anyone help?

Many Thanks

Stewart

Which Newcastle?

There's at least two of them and no doubt even the Pommie one saw motorised competition in that era...

Not to mention the one in Norn Iron - where my parents lived for a while - and the Welsh one (or two if you count Newcastle Emlyn!)

Newcastle Emlyn of course being the traditional base for the famous Cilwendeg road rally.

Is there a Newcastle in New Zealand then? North Island or South?

Canada and South Africa also. One could spend a pleasant evening researching them all, accompanied by a nice bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. ;)

Ha! Good one. I'll think about it later today on my way to Neuerburg...

There might be a very small one on the South Island...

But Google Maps can't find it!

You could always stop off in Neuchatel.

Stewart, as much as I respect your project - but please don`t be naive!

It is more likely that photos of the 1930 Kremlin Auto Club with ol`Jo behind the wheel exist than photos from the Newcastle Auto Club in the early 30s.

But good luck with your research!

Back to Châteauneuf-du-Pape...

No need for the vino...

This was a serious question, I was just clarifying the location.

Sorry guys.

Newcastle Australia.

You would actually be surprised as to the photographs I already have pulled from newspapers and the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria magazine. But I have a gap around the Newcastle Auto Club where lots of cool stuff happened.

Cheers

Stewart

Two names for you, Stewart...

Hal Maloney and Brian Lear. Brian does post here occasionally.

I'm sure Brian can help you with Hal's details...

The reason I suggest it is that Hal told me about a circuit that was built at Rutherford in the twenties.
